Ordering my Spyder today! And, I have a couple of quick questions regarding options..

I'm getting excited! It's now becoming a reality! I'm ordering it in Full Moon Silver.

Here are the options, I have decided to go ahead with..

Outside cover : Will it fit inside the trunk of the Spyder? Or; for light weather outside cover-up, do you think the inside cover will suffice?

Factory BRP Rear Sport Rack, and Adjustable Backrest: I 've read that some riders are in favor of this system. And, I know that some are going with the Corbin seat/backrest solution. I've decided to go ahead with the BRP products, since I have never even seen Corbin products. Later on, I can research other options. But; since I know my wife is going to want to ride, I need to get a backrest system in place now.

Foglights: I don't think you can be seen enough while on a bike, trike, Spyder :D. Plus; they add a nice touch.

Side Panel Trim Kit: I'm still thinking about this option. Anyone else ordered these yet? If so, what are your thoughts?

I also found out one of the dealers in our area is putting on a Can-Am Spyder Demo the weekend of July 12th, and 13th. Very Cool!

:congrats:

I wouldn't bother with this. I have over 12K on my Spyder now and I'm not showing any wear. I don't think they look that great either.

You might want to consider the trunk liner if you're looking to spend money :doorag:

Love the outdoor cover. Fits very well, and beats the rain nicely. Difficult to store, however. We ended up sticking it into a 7"x15" camping stuff sack, which solved the problem nicely, and fits handily in the trunk, with room to spare.

We had these installed. They definitely add to the visibility. They also light up nicely right in front of the Spyder for night riding, an area most motorcycle headlights neglect. We never turn them off, day or night. Well worth it IMO.

If I had it to do over again, I would not get the side panel trim kit. I think they look okay but they are a pain to deal with if you are removing the side panels. During a time when I was removing those panels every couple of weeks, I decided I did not need them like I thought I would when I bought them. There are many other Spyder accessories that you will get more benefit from (like NoMagicNeon HIDs).

I have the outdoor cover which I think is extremely nice and worth the money. I also bought the rack and backrest which my wife loves and makes her feel alot savor. I agree you should get the trunk liner..it is very nice and I think it should of been standard with the bike

Thanks everyone!!!!

I just changed the 'work-up' order sheet to reflect the trunk liner, and remove the side pads.

I really appreciate the input!

And, this just in! Signing the contract after work! :)

I got the fog lights but we didn't put them in yet - waiting for a totally rainy day because while it's apart we want to put my wiring in for my Gerbings.

I got the sport touring shield - I don't see much difference and prefer the stock one lookswise.

I got the risers and hubby installed them - made a world of different since I'm not leaned over as much.

A Classic or Tourbike cover from Wally World fits nose to tail, you will need to make some socks for the front fenders. 20.00~40.00 depending on dust cover or all weather.
8x10 sheets (any color)of 1/8th thick self adhesive foam rubber at craft store can be used for any side panel trim or rub strips or tank bag buffer. About .40 cents a sheet and easily replaceable when worn out!

I really appreciate all the great input, everyone!

I placed my order on Friday.

My dealer also is a Victory dealer. Man! Those are sweet, too!!

So; I'm getting the Foglights, Trunk Liner, Sport Rack, Backrest, Outside Cover, and the red Front Brake Caliper covers. I'll probably go ahead and buy the Can-Am gloves, as well.

They also showed me some of the other Can-Am clothing, too! Nice!!

Between now and the time the Spyder arrives, I'm going to do some shopping for my helmet(s). The dealer had a pretty nice Fulmer full-face that I tried on (flat black) for about $100. I want to go with Silver, with some graphics, I think. Those are just a little over that amount by Fulmer.

I like both my Fulmer and my Scorpion EXO 700 helmets. Both are Snell and DOT approved. The Fulmer is cheaper, quieter, and has more room for my ear speakers. The Scorpion is better ventilated, and has a nice anti-fog shield. Also slots that fit the bows on my glasses, which is nice. If it is well built, fits and feels good, and you like it, grab it.

:congrats: sounds like you got it handled for now...

Scotty:
I think you hit the nail on the head mentioning these 'slots'! The only helmet I have tried on so far was the Fulmer. It was very difficult getting my glasses on after putting the helmet on. Finally; I did succeed twice. But; it was a real pain. And, I was actually a bit concerned that I might break my glasses if I wasn't really careful.

I see that particular Scorpian model can be found for around $200. That's not a bad price. A friend of mine at work rides a Buell, and he purchased a Scorpion recently. He likes it. But, his was around $400. I need to find out if he bought it locally; or if he ordered online.

Thanks for mentioning the 'slots'! I need a helmet with these, for sure!

I wonder what other brands offer these slots for eyeglass wearers.

I have found the trick with my Fulmer, and several other brands, was to slide the bows of my glasses low, past my ears rather than above them, until they nestle it. You get used to the technique. Then they don't ride high, into a space well above the ears. Pads do soften up in time, making it easier. The large earholes in the Fulmer makes wearing the glasses with the helmet comfortable. Scorpion a close second. Helmets without ear pockets seem to bother me when the bows push against my ears, but I always have been overly sensitive in that department.

Try on a Scorpion, or any other helmet, before you buy. Buying mail order is a possibility, but you need to have had one on your head previously. Too many sizes and shapes...both for heads and helmets. Gotta find the right combination. Scorpion makes three models, the 400, 700, and 1000. All have different features and slightly different fit. My EXO 700 was a Christrmas gift, but list is about $180, I think. The cheek pads are quite large, and push in tightly, so make sure it will not drive you crazy. The 1000 has air adjustable head pads.

Good luck on your quest. There are helmets out there that accomodate glasses, including the Fulmer. The Scorpion was just the easiest one for that task that I ever ran into so far.

He paid too much, a Scorpion EXO 1000 is under 300.

That's some good information. :) Thanks! If I were to purchase online, I would only do it after verifying the fit with the same helmet, locally.

I may have misunderstood him. Looking now, I see that the 1000 series is around $330.00 - at least at one source.

The Corbin seat and backrest is a much better deal than the BRP backrest. For around $100, or the same depending on install, more you get a better seat and IMO backrest that really makes the Spyder pop

That may come later down the road. My Spyder is ordered w/the goodies mentioned. And, I read that the install was not so good with the Corbin (maybe this was only in 1 case?). I just wonder how that could be when Corbin, obviously had a Spyder to build their seat from.

------- Another Helmet option is the Modus (modular) by Fulmer. A buddy of mine was telling me about those earlier this morning.

The BRP sport rack/backrest is overpriced, but it is a neat design and makes the wife happy. The clever mecanism that allows the change between backrest and sport rack is about a 30 second process and makes it easy to remove the backrest when you want to. Looks best on silver.

Yup. Yup. Yup.

The BRP sport rack/backrest is overpriced...
:agree: but, your dealer ought to give you at least 10%-15% discount...
... but it is a neat design and makes the wife happy...

:agree: Absolutely. Slight amount of fore/aft adjustability to the thing, too.

...but you might never remove it. I haven't. I think it looks sharp.

Looks best on silver.

I was just noticing today how much s i l v e r there is all over the Spyder, regardless of color choice (yellow, silver, red). So, yep, one more time,

:agree: with BRPjunkie
