Iktome Luta (Red Spyder), my SE-5, is in the shop at Pensacola Motor Sports for the 600 mile service and now awaiting a permanent fix to the gear selection problem.

Early tomorrow I will enter the hospital for a procedure called a fistula-gram to return full blood flow to my dialysis access. By ten AM Friday I will have completed my third dialysis treatment for this week and should be looking forward to a wonderful fall weekend of riding! I would very much want to believe that BRP is doing everything possible to get me back on the road.

It is very disheartening to have to admit to the staff and other patients that the pretty red tryke is not in the parking lot because I cannot trust it to shift when required. It would boost my spirits greatly to know that my ride would be awaiting after a brief recovery period Friday for me to enjoy in safety! It would be very nice not to have to explain to my riding companions on the Saturday morning International Retreads ride why Sunkawakanwi and I are in the Forester instead of on the Spyder.

Keep on them bro. Its my understanding that they don't personally answer many of the stuff sent to them but hopefully they do read them and act on them. Maybe they'll succumb to the "squeaky wheel gets the grease" adage and get your dealer some help in fixing your Spyder.

I feel for you, there's nothing as disappointing as not being able to ride and nothing as frustrating as not trusting your ride.

As for BRP stepping up and announcing that the SE5's have a problem, I think thats going to be aways down the road. Unfortunately that forum members report can't give us a bearing on how big the problem really is because there's no way to know how many trouble free SE5's are out there. Stay on your dealer and if you've got a good one then hopefully they'll stay on BRP to get a fix and an answer.

SE 5 Problems

Chief (in deference to your retired rate, not a disparaging remark on your proud heritage), Sorry to hear of your, and others' problems with SE 5s. I recently took delivery of a red SE 5 myself, but have not had much chance to do any lengthy riding. So far, other than trying to beat the computer to the downshift, I have not noticed any particular problem with shifting. Is there a problem with the electronic control module that manages the shifting function? If so, did your problem with the shifting show up all of a sudden, or did it start to happen after reaching a certain mileage point? Finally, is your bike in the shop due to a BRP recall, or because there has been a lot of forum complaints by people in various parts of the county concerning the shifting problems with the SE 5s? Sorry to make this so long-winded, but I guess I am a little concerned, and wondering if this shifting problem is something I will have in the future, or if it is just isolated incidents. All that having been said, I hope you will be able to enjoy your weekend riding. Thanks, and safe riding.

As the owner of a SM5, I can't weigh in on SE5 issues. I do think that BRP may have rushed the SE5 to the market as they tried to target that segment of the market that didn't want to deal with the manual clutch/shift issues. We all know that first year models have design issues that are flushed out with first year buyers/dealers and they can be both minor annoyances (muffler burn spots, sticky parking brakes) and major problems (steering system failures, relay failures, overheating). While BRP may have thought of the SE5 as simply a variation of the SM5, it has all of the same potential issues of the SM5 with some unique issues associated with the electronic shift system. It will be interesting to see how these two models perform (or fail to perform) up to expectations of BRP, dealers and owners over the next year.

Some good questions---

It started at about 400 miles and I have one or more insicents of every ride since. Don't really know how many SEs are actually getting trouble but seems a good number. I put it in to be checked for the problem and to get the 600 service. As mentioned BRP is pretty much mum on the issue so far, that is why I keep posting on it and sending directly to the Spyder Team.

Just got home from the fistula-gram on my dialysis access and had another stint installed up by my clavical. Not too bad, guess it was only a small mule that kicked me this time! After dialysis tomorrow I will go over to the shop and see if there are any answers.

tell them "DON'T MAKE ME COME DOWN THERE CUZ THERE WILL BE SOME MAJOR A$$ KICKING!!!"

Very sorry to hear about yourself and your Spyder.....But it always just seems odd to me when people feel it necessary add Personal Things in letters to try and get some sort of Sympathy from Businesses in hopes of getting work done faster.....Or am I just wrong and have Drank too much coffee??? Can you tell me why you felt you needed to add it and did it work??? If it did,,,,Maybe in my next letter I shoot out Ill add that because of my Diverticulitis my Sphincter doesnt like my Ford over my Spyder and as a Result Ive started Sharting....:joke:

We have all followed Shunkmanitu's posts for a while here and I guess he feel comfortable letting us know what's going on with him. If he wants to include it in a letter to whoever what does it hurt. Certainly not you. If you don't want to know about it don't read his posts.

Wish you well, Coyote.

So,,,,,,Get off your Soap Box.... You can read that Sarcastically if you wish:thumbup:
