• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Ongoing Mods Thread - Turning an RSS into an RST

Folks are always looking for mods, I am looking to turn our RSS, which is a "sport" machine, into a comfortable sport machine that can also tour. I don't want an RT or an ST, I want and RS that can tour, so the usual suspects that deride this idea can enjoy watching me vaporize dollars and keep their thoughts on it to themselves please and thanks:thumbup: I will figure out how to add pics within the week. All prices are taxes inc, shipped to my door.

HMF Pipe - ($380CAD) - 10/10 - Sounds and looks wicked, easy install, makes the bike into a different machine. A little loud, but I haven't been cut off yet, as folks notice it. (I got cut off twice in 2 hours on the stock loaner F3 I had. Makes the Nazi-boy V-Twin a thundering beast. The only downside, I share a driveway, and in spite of the fact that my neighbour is a noisy neighbour, I still find myself pushing the bike in and out of the garage when I'm coming or going early or late.

Calsci Tinted Shorty ($180CAD) - WOW 10 out of 10! - Looks bitchin, and the windblast is 85% managed with NO buffeting! So impressed, I was not sure it would be touring capable with it's sporty looks, but it is perfect for me, and still allows helmet vent functionality, and the vents on my jacket still flow, at a moderately reduced rate.

BRP Comfort Seat - ($650CAD) - GREAT 8.5 / 10 New and not broken in it is pretty darn comfy. Driver seat is extended, passenger area is shorter. It really only fits more slender passengers, imo. Fortunately my wife is small. Much better shape than the OEM RSS seat from 2011. Softer and better shaped, but I was hoping for softer. I will report back with more miles. This is one of those mods that an owner should no have to do, it should just be there from the factory imo.

BRP Passenger Backrest - ($750CAD) - 11/10 - My wife says this is as good as it gets! It compliments the looks of the machine, vs all other backrests that to me look like an afterthought. It installs without too much difficulty, and comes on and off in minutes. My thoughts on this is I could be annoyed by the price for the brief period of paying for it, or buy one of the lesser backrest, and be happy for a few minutes, and disappointed there-after. Ridiculously expensive, but once I got a look at the hardware and fit and finish, I understand the price. And what is the price of an unhappy wife / passenger. Money well spent my friends!

Mirror Extensions - ($140CAD) 10/10 -Easy install. Nice to not be looking at my elbows anymore, adds a bit of rearward view, which is much safer. GOLDEN! I can see properly now, a little bit of rear view and a buzz free side view. Actually cleaned up the shaking a bit.

BajaRon Swaybar ($200CAD) - 8.5/10 Nice looking piece, installed without have to do anything other than remove the 2 nearby frunk bolts. Easy install. So far I don't notice a huge difference, but it is a little more agile and flat. Not bad, maybe I will be more impressed with more use. Ride not affected much at all.

Rivco 3.5" Handle Bar Risers - 10/10 - Not the easiest install, a bit intimidating to be cutting handlebars and setting up the throttle / clutch / etc. Nice change in seat / handgrip relationship, should probably be like this from the factory. An interesting side effect is the steering is noticably lighter, it actually took a 15m ride to get used to it. Great mod.

Oxford Heaterz Touring Heated Grips - ($85CAD) - 9/10 Easily put in place while doing the riser install. The provided glue stuck to the bars but not to their own grips! Odd, however, the large angled wire exit from the handle was in the way of the clutch lever. Anyhow, once reattached, and wired to the spare circuit (spare wires were hidden under the fuse box, not tied, just sitting there). Nice temp control, burning hot in 2 minutes. This will end up being my favorite if they last, I get cold hands, before anything else.

ONGOING MODS - Bought but not on

Nelson Riggs CL-855 - ($180CAD) - So far, I have only fitted them, and I don't want to rate them until we use them. They look sharp, the fit and finish is acceptable, but we will be resolving some issues revolving around the passenger / pegs, and rear turn signals that do interfere. I am planning on relocating the rear signals, and seeing how far that gets me. It bugs me that the only relocate I can find are BRP for $250, I would rather just have some frames that hold the bags further back. We'll see.

Foot position

Your doing what many of us have done. The REAL difference is the foot controls/ position. The st is WAY more comfortable feet and leg wise than my gs is, in my opinion. Are you planning to address that ?
Rock on with the mods.

Wow..!!

when your done you will have created a new model called the...RST...:roflblack: good luck with the to do list congrats on the done list...:2thumbs:

I personally don't find the feet in front of me. sitting straight up comfortable, (in fact the F# gave me a sore butt in record time) I need me feet to take some of my weight (190~#), or my butt gets sore. The ST is not a good fit for me in that way, although the ST is pretty close to what I wanted, there was no getting one under $20K, I paid $14K for my brand new non current 2011. I just installed the 3.5 bar risers, mirror extensions, heated grips, and Bajaron sway bar. All in, going slow, about 3.5hrs, Grips are not wired yet.

*Edited top list*

Swaybar = good (I'll have to go for a solo ride and turn up the wick a little to really know)
Mirror extensions = Gold
3.5" Bar Risers = great (especially with the tinted short)

Next mod might be to bypass the passenger sensor in the seat, the nanny just goes to town with my wife on the back, and I don't notice any reduction of the nanny when riding 2 up from the sway bar. The rental bike I had would t shut me down until we picked up the inside wheel by a few inches, which makes more sense than the random throttle cut I am getting in corners right now. A smooth sweeper and every bump it coughs. No good.

Sway bar

I think the sway bar makes a much bigger difference on the rt than the rs. I did see an improvement though when I put mine on. Try turning your shocks up to four or five and see how you like that. Rt shocks are always an option, but they ride rough as hell on a gs,rs. An extra pound or two of air pressure also helps with handling. I keep my fronts at 19 or 19.5 .

 That only affect the front to rear brake bias; nothing else.

I live near Winnipeg, and ride a lot there. No matter how bumpy and destroyed you think your roads may be, Winnipeg is far worse. Turning the front springs to 5 is not a good trade-off unfortunately, they are set at 3 currently. Also, to be direct, I mostly bought the swaybar so handling would tighten up without touching the front spring settings, and the ride is slightly affected by the swaybar, I would say ride-wise it feels like 1 notch firmer on the springs would. I would consider some fox shocks, but where does it end? I see someone is selling some take-offs, but I will have to see if they will drop the price.

After a few hundred miles....

The bar risers are nice, I should have gone 4.5, but close enough.

The BRP backrest is working great, except when I took off quickly, it clunked and shifted and got lose, prompting a frightened squeal from my wife. Not good! Tightened it with the tools and it seems fine. If it does that again, it will create spousal issues.

BajaRon sway bar - an improvement that is always noticeable, I have no problem pushing the front tires till they squeal. It does affect the ride, but not drastically, and well worth it.

Oxford grip warmers - AWESOME! Rode to work in 6C the other day, kept my fingers toasty.

Calsci windshield is GREAT. It looks sharp and doesn't muck up the sporty lines of the RSS too much.

I got my passenger endorsement the other day, woohoo. Only problem is the rear shock dampening is terrible! Compression is poor rebound is MIA. Any ideas for an economical upgrade? I don't need reservoirs, just a shock that works!

Must get around to getting some of these as I'm a bit bored at looking at my elbows as well - also means it's harder to keep an eye out for the rossers when accidently misreading the speedo. I did consider bar end mirrors instead but of course the front indicators are also mounted on the mirrors so I'd have to change those as well.

Is mirror vibration any worse with the extensions fitted?

I got mini-led indicators and fitted them on my rear fender instead - they cost me about NZ$60 (US$45) including the extra connectors, wire etc to fit them. Some pictures of the finished result at the end of this thread:

I did similar to my '09 RS. I added 5" risers, a 24" windshield and invented my first Seal Floorboards so I could sit in either a cruiser position or move my feet back to shift my weight around. You can see my Yellow RS on my website. That's when I began to really.....

Ride in comfort,

I like what you are doing. I bought my 14 RS-S as I can be found carving curves in the Blue Ridge some where. I have added sattlite radio and cb and Whelen TIR 3 extra brake light so far. The F3 with the birthing possition forward comtrols would not do. From published specs the RS-S is .3 sec faster in 0 to 60. At 4,000 miles in less than 3 months I could not be happier. :ohyea:
