There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Oil tank strainer

Might get better answers if you would state which model (engine) you have......or put that info. in your signature.

Oil system screens or strainers typically are not intended to be cleaned.
IF it is "dirty" enough that it really needs to be cleaned, then you likely have a BAD problem that needs fixing.

Thanks.....Its a 2014 st. I assumed that all the 990 v twins had the same oil system. The manual says to clean it. SO Thats why im askin the question. Id much rather just not worry with it. Thanks again for your input.

The strainer is only there to catch debris dropped into the oil tank. So inspecting first oil change or every couple years is not a bad idea. There will likely be nothing on it. So if you skipped it, probably would not matter. Reminder on a SE model there are 2 of them. One for the engine oil pump and another one for the HCM oil pump pick up. Wipe with a rag may be good enough and wash with solvent if you wish.

Thanks! Ima just let it be.I have done all my oil changes and can say with confidence that there has nothing fell down in there! :2thumbs:

Hi TONYO,

Re: How do I clean the oil tank strainer?

I just cleaned the one in my oil reservoir. It takes about a 26 mm wrench; or my adjustable 'crescent' wrench which worked just fine.

Mine was fairly clean ( 14,000 miles ) but I cleaned it with solvent & then blew it dry with my air compressor. Then I let it sit & air dry while I did the rest of the oil change.

On advice, I did not change out the 'O' ring as it is still in very good condition.
