Oil reservoir FULL

What are the ramifications of putting approximately 400 miles on spyder with the oil reservoir completely full. Had oil change done last week at dealership after trip to Springfield. Going to "Heart of Washington" tomorrow and checked oil tonight after trip to Spokane :spyder:so was plenty warmed up. The oil is all the way to the top of dip stick. Got flash light and can see oil is all the way to the top of the reservoir. Can't figure out what the service tech was doing. Will call dealership tomorrow morning but just wondering if any or how much damage was/could be done by being overfilled?

Have to ask..!!

you sure..?? You should be spitting out oil somewhere. If that much oil is present your air box may have a bit as well. Ususlly it will blow back to the air box and start leaking from there. Good practice to check you oil after service just for this reason. But in the meantime syphon oil out till you are at the full mark following the proper proceedure for checking oil...

Positive took pics to show dealership in case they question my observation. Easy to see oil at threads. No oil yet that I can see on floor will check under bike right now. Thanks for tip.

IF IT'S AN RT

If it is an RT then I doubt if there is really any practical ramifications.
In any event I'd check the air box and drain off any sloshing oil.

:gaah:.....Roger, it appears He has a 2013 RT.....so it's the 998 V-twin...............Why does it matter if it's an RT............and IMHO the V-twin or any gas engine system for that matter should not operating that overfilled ...........................But I'm open to other theories on this ? ? ?.....thanks Mike :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Same thing happened to me. I got my new 2013 RT and put a hundred miles or so on it. I decided to "practice" checking the oil and found the entire dip stick wet. Thought I might be doing something wrong so I watched Lamont's video on how to check oil. For demo purposes, he was doing the check on a COLD machine and the oil was about 1/2 way between the full/add mark. So I figured I could, at least, siphon that much out. Took about 6-7 oz out and took her for a ride. Came back and checked again, hot, and found the wet mark between the FULL and the top of the stick. Took it to the dealer and asked for a "professional oil check" and they would up taking out several more oz. Must have been a screw-up on set-up. And, no, I didn't have oil dripping or blowing out anywhere.

Not nearly as critical on a dry sump lubricating system as it would be with a conventional oil pan setup. Still there is some serious issues with paying a professional to do it wrong like that.

I tell people to ALWAYS check your oil level before you leave the dealership when you've had your Spyder serviced. If they did it right you're good to go. If not, then you save yourself a lot of grief.

It is amazing how many times the oil is ether way too full or too low after a service.

I seem to recall that because of the air box design of the RS/GS it was prone to fill with oil from the breather tube which is why I made the distinction.
I agree it is not good to have any engine running with an overfilled tank.

I agree that the air box design could be a factor with oil in the air box. That would explain why RT's for the most part don't have this problem. But you will also notice that owners of RSs 2011 models and later rarely complain about this problem either. Air box is the same but it was mention by someone there was a change in head, at the vent hose area.
My 09 puked lots of oil into the airbox and I experimented with different oil levels and even underfilling made absolutely no difference in how much. I believe that high oil level in the reservoir tank causing oil in the breather box is just just another Spyder myth. That said, BRP says keep the level between add and full and there is no reason not to do that. In this case the Dealer should know better.

A BETTER DIPSTICK ? ? ?

...Roger this doesn't quite relate to this topic buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut...........I recently designed a " THREADLESS ", dipstick which I use all the time now............It works just like the OEM......however mine has no threasds that need to be screwed in..........so it's in and out ..........Mine is slightly longer ( intently ) but marked the same as OEM..................The OEM dipstick is $ 23 if you cross-thread it , so be very careful.....Mike

WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Well Mike that sounds interesting, if it isn’t a trade secret, how do you keep it sealed?
While there isn’t pumped oil pressure in the tank there is a lot of hot oil which has a tendency to want to escape?

:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:..........I think you mis-understood what my dip-stick does :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:......It doesn't PERMANENTLY replace the OEM dipstick......I use mine to check the oil level,only............instead of constantly screwing the dipstick in and out .....Like when you are doing an oil change etc., mine allows you to just slide it in and remove instantly..........because there are no threads..............It's an EXACT fit to keep the correct angle of the stick into the tank, necessary to get an accurate reading ................I brought some to Spyderfest and gave them out ........Too bad we didn't hook up...............................Are you going to SPYDERQUEST ????????

WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

No, I’m not legally able to cross state lines in NY.
:joke:

.....Oops , there I go again bringing two separate thoughts into one post and thinking I might get TWO answers. :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:...Mike
