There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Nope, no "change oil" light. If previous owner had the oil changed at a dealer, they should be able to tell you the mileage on the Spyder when the oil was changed. Once you know that you can go by the oil change mileage stated in your owner's manual.

No. If you do not know the history of oil changes for the machine you just bought I would change the oil right away. If the previous owner had the oil changes done only by BRP Spyder dealers the record should be in the ECM and any dealer can look it up by hooking up to BUDS. There are other service items that should be looked at as well.
I would also bring it into a BRP Spyder dealer. They can transfer the warranty into your name. Can look up if there are any outstanding recalls or warranty campaigns that need to be taken care of.
How often do they need changed? Is it pretty simple to change yourself?

regardless I would follow billybovine's advice. If personally maintained you cannot know if they change filters every time or every other etc. Good idea to have a dealer check it out on buds and a general once over if it's not your thing..congrats on the new ryde..:2thumbs:
BTW the oil light on these machines only measure the pressure, you will need to keep an eye on the level and condition...:thumbup:

BUDS doesn't tell what was done, just when a dealer made the effort to say it was serviced. I do know that when we are contacted by a person who has purchased a bike that we have a service history on, we will print out copies of what was done on the bike. So it doesn't hurt to ask where the bike was serviced and contact that dealer.
I do agree that if you don't know exactly what was done, it is an excellent idea to change the oil now and establish a baseline.

RE: Oil Change The intervals will depend on what engine. If you have the 998 two cylinder--every 4,500 after the first change at 600. If you have the 1300 triple--every 9,500 after the first change at 3,000.
Take it to a dealer for a check out to see when serviced last and to get transferred into your name.

I did not know the info was that limited. Good to know that it is almost useless.

Since the PO didn't know when the oil was last changed, as others have said it would be to your benefit to have a dealer look it over and change the oil and filter or filters if necessary. You also want a dealer to run the VIN to be certain any/all recalls have been completed. if you desire go to this web site, http://can-am.brp.com/spyder/, and enter your VIN at the bottom of the page to see if there are any outstanding SAFETY recalls on your Spyder. The link does only safety recalls so that's why you should have a dealer run the VIN for other possible recalls.
