Oil Leak

Should I be concerned about a very small place of oil on the concrete after a ride? The oil level is fine. Noticed the morning after a ride that a small amount of oil had leaked. This has actually happened a couple of times in the 1800 miles I have put on the Spyder.

Any cause for concern, or is this kind of normal?

Depends..!

was it after the service..? Could be left over from oil change. Is it under the oil drain and filter area..? Could check all is tight. If it's from the water pump side could be a seal and then there is the air box oil accumulation. I would try to locate where it may be coming from to get a better idea. If your not good with the removing of the tupper wear check back with the dealer. Keep an eye on that...:lecturef_smilie:

Wow. Plenty of places it could be coming from, huh? It's been more than a month since I had it serviced, so I know it's not from that. It's not bad, and it's only happened twice. I'll keep an eye on it, and if it happens again I'll try to pinpoint the location.

Thanks!

Are you sure what you see is oil? Overflow from the radiator tube, Or the evaporator [charcoal canister] tube has been mistaken for an oil leak by more than a few Spyder owners....:dontknow:

Its a real thin oil, not thick like engine oil. It could be evaporation. Seems to be on the right side, opposite the engine oil.

If it's evaporation -- Any cause for alarm?

BTW -- I have an SM5

If you have oil leaking and your dipstick still full you might have a oil mine:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:. just kidding. Follow all the advice of the above post and don't worry too much. I'm sure it's not that bad wipe it off and just keep on eye on it. Have fun riding:yes:

If it's just occasionally after a hot shut down, Nothing to worry about....

Update

Well, took my Spyder to the dealer today. The leak is due to a bad gasket to the water pump. Some sort of coolant or anti-freeze is dripping out. The gasket has to be replaced. The dealer has to order the parts needed and then I have to schedule an appointment to go back. Said the whole job will take about six hours. At least it is under warranty.

I have a 2012 RT. The dealer said there is several of these that he has had to replace over the last few weeks. I wonder if it is just a 2012 defect?

The dealer also said to ride limited mileage until it gets replaced.

Has anyone else had anything similar to this happen to them?

I have a 2013 RT Limited with 2300 miles on it. I have a seal on the water pump that's leaking and my whole underside was soaked in oil. I dropped it off at the dealer yesterday and it should be repaired by weeks end... Monday at the latest. My mechanic said it's been two years since he's seen a water pump leak like this. I hope there's no delay as I'm planning on going to Maggie Valley and Lamonts.
