Oil leak at 100 miles! New 2024 S2S

There has been some cases reported here of engine block having porosity problems. Those owners have received a new engine. Also, oil could have been overfilled. Look at filler tube, see any oil seeping out of there from overfill? These engines are a dry sump. Don't check oil level cold. Proper procedure in owners manual.

:agree: Before you jump off the cliff, ether take it back to the dealership and have them chase it out, or clean your engine down in that area and take it out again and track the source down. Good Luck

I put it up on ramps and couldn't see an obvious source. I'm taking it back to the dealer on Friday. To me it looks like it's coming from the engine case seam but I really hope not. Their Spyder tech is booked for a few weeks so it's going to be a while. Ugh. It's better to find this problem now while riding season is practically over here in Michigan.

First, the dealers are notorious for overfilling the oil. When you rev the motor a little higher, it seeps oil out the dip stick seal. Typically this means about 8 ounces too much oil. Check the dip stick tube for oil residue. Then wrap the top of the dip stick with tissues to see if this is the source. This happened to me on the way home when I just took delivery. I extracted about 8 ounces and problem solved. It only takes 5 1/4 quarts to properly fill the 1330 motor. Yet, they provide 6 quarts in the oil change kit. Don't panic, see if the tissue around the dip stick collects any oil. Good Luck

Okay, I'll check this tomorrow. I would love that to be the issue.

It doesn't look like you're losing much. I'd ride it and just keep an eye on your oil level. This gets you in for whatever riding season you have left without hurting anything.

I dropped it off at the dealer this morning. Should know the root cause in about two weeks.

It's your ride so whatever you decide is fine. But letting it sit at the dealership in riding weather only to get it fixed and back for winter storage seems like a waste. Riding now and letting it sit at the dealership when you can't ride anyway was the other option.

Riding weather can be subjective but since it's going into the 40's here for the foreseeable future it's fine with me.

UPDATE from the dealer: The oil leak is coming from the transmission filter. Sounds easy enough to replace/fix. They also found a coolant leak. It's "weeping from a port". I think normally this would be indicative of a bad water pump but since the machine is new they are not sure. They are waiting for BRP to advise them how the proceed on this one. It's been a rough start to Spyder ownership.

If you do not tighten the filter bolts evenly, most any O-Ring sealing component will leak. Probably nothing more than a poor install. As for the water pump, 'Weeping from a port' does certainly sound like a water pump seal failure. It is more common to get weeping from a hose connection on a new machine. But they sound pretty sure about the port thing. As far as I know, there is only one place that qualifies. And that would be the weep hole in the water pump.

The OP having a problem with BRP and the dealership deciding how to "proceed" on this one is a 10KT load of bovine effluent. The 1330 ACE engine is bulletproof. It's BRP's and the dealership's responsibility to fix both problems under warranty. The owner should expect nothing less.

Hardly. Way too many documented cases of problems, both minor and major (engine life ending). If you have a good one, keep it. Rotax quality control seems to have taken a nose dive in recent years.

Yeah, makes me think I got a bad one, we'll see. BRP's customer service is lacking. All they tell me over and over is to contact my dealer. I opened a case with them so they understand my "new" machine has issues and I've been without it for almost a month. They don't seem to care. If it were my company and someone spent $30K on a product I would tell my customer service to offer them something to keep them happy and be very attentive. The dealer has been good but admits to waiting for BRP to respond to them. They seem to have a lot of spyders in for repair as well. I hope I don't regret this whole experience. As a car guy, I sold a nice car to buy this Sypder and experience something new and right now I'm wishing I had my car back.

It's very unfortunate, but I think sometimes Spyder owners expect all BRP dealerships to perform the way many cage dealerships do. It just doesn't happen that way. Couple that with the fact that the recreational powersports industry has some industry-wide problems. Just yesterday the WSJ reported Polaris is on tenterhooks about moving production to Mexico with a new administration threatening all kinds of tariffs.

This might be a long-shot, but I read in another post (maybe even on another site) that there are a few cases of the o-rings in the oil filter housing leaking. Oil that is flowing through the filter is presurized, pushes out of the top, and slowly dribbles down the engine.

This makes for a difficult-to-find leak. All you see is oil in random places on the bottom of the engine.

It's worth taking a look at the oil filter housing to see it there are any signs of leakage.

Update: My Spyder is still at the dealer (since 11/15). The coolant leak requires a new cylinder head so that is on order and they are replacing the oil rings on the HCU cover. Hopefully this fixes the oil and coolant leaks. It’s been a tough first 100 miles. BRP has agreed to some type of compensation for my troubles so we’ll see how that goes. 🤞🏻

Some type of compensation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's brand new!!! This should not be on you at all!!! You're the one that spent all that money and only has 100 miles on the clock! Good luck!!

Yeah, it sucks. At first they didn’t even want to acknowledge me and my issues. I was like, wait a minute I spent a lot of money to only receive a defective product right out of the gate! Their customer service needs some work.
