Actually BRP, as any OEM, has a vested interest in specifying 'good enough' maintenance intervals. Long maintenance intervals and thus low cost of ownership are selling points. The 'cost' of these reduced maintenance regimes is born by the owner, not the OEM.
In short, BRP has a vested interest in selling you a bike with all its 'features', not in making your purchase last as long as possible.
The recommendations made by many owners here is based on real world observations of oil analysis from Spyders and is trying to help you make your investment last longer. Listen to whomever you want. But don't infer that the recommendations are bunk.
