• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Oil change filing... normal?

Hey all!

I just finished up my oil change on my '08 GS/SM5 and had this metal shaving stuck on the magnetic end of the plug.

I've had metallic particles on it before (which is normal), but nothing quite like this little sliver.

Should I be concerned or has anyone seen this?

Thanks for taking a look, and for all your help!

That's what the magnet's there for. I wouldn't worry unless shavings continue to accumulate. Sometimes they take a while to work themselves loose. I would suggest you be sure to clean the screen in the tank the next time it is due.

Thanks Scotty!

That's what I was hoping to hear... And to quote Tonga, what screen are you referring to?

Thanks for the reply!

I get a sliver just about every change.

As far as the screen... It is supposed to be checked every 6000 miles if I remember the interval correctly.

On the bottom right side of your oil tank there is a fat hose. Buy a new hose clamp for it, cut or work the oetiker clamp off. Then unbolt the fitting. You will find that the bolt and fitting are attached to a screen/strainer once you totally pull it out.

Blast that screen from both sides with your choice of carb or brake cleaner. Let dry. Replace just the same as you took it apart.

It calls for a new o ring to be used. If you don't have one, and the o ring on the dip is in better condition, you can swap them if needed.

Hope that helps...
