• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I thought I was safe, it hasn't happened to me, so it won't. My spyder would never strand me,
So now the dreaded orange screen with DESS message has arrived.

I had fabricated a pretty sweet flag holder that fastened to passenger floorboard. I had washed and shined
ol' trusty till it looked better than it has since I took it off the showroom. I had my Veteran's Day parade entry in hand.
(something I hadn't done before) So I step out in garage and it won't start.

Took key away, tried OTHER key. tried on/off thing someone here suggested. Checked battery, all good there. It's going in shop
tomorrow. Don't care if they have parts or not, what am I going to do with a dead bug instead of a lively spyder ? I am unsure if it's even under warranty anymore, I think it is...

I can look at new ones I guess, maybe that's the whole idea. The clock that loses time, is ticking away to a "fail point" where you HAVE
to go to a dealer. C'mon, the dang parade ! I was trying to represent, but,,,,

any other ideas for a temporary patch to keep me from having to shove it on the trailer, would appreciate.
and MOSTLY, thank you all for letting me vent. It has been a tough week.

Dammit!! Sorry to hear how it messed up your Veteran's Day plans 4 Marie, but I have it on good authority (altho he was well & truly squiffed right out of his tiny little gourd at the time?!? ) that all these modern electronic devices (btw, they are all called Fred = F'ing Ridiculous Electronic Devices) have a sensor installed solely to detect when a failure would have the most annoying or frustrating impact upon you &/or your plans, & when they detect this, they'll select from their range of failure options the one that will annoy/frustrate/inconvenience you the most!! It really does seem that some Spyders have this sensor working over-time!! :sour:

I hope you can get it sorted readily. Good Luck!

Try starting it again as the two times it stranded me (both a long way from home) it would start again after time. The last time it did it I then drove it the 275 miles without turning it off strait to the dealer and left it there for them to replaced the DESS module.

Disconnect the battery and discharge the system. Then it should crank. My 2014 RT did that the first time, and it was the only fix. After that, it would always crank after just a couple of minutes. I continued and put up with this for about a year. Then I got afraid that one day it wouldn't crank so I took it in for the dealer fix. Haven't had a problem since.

thanks all, dealer says for the DESS Screen now, CanAm wants you to have new, reprogrammed keys. Let's hope.

Looked at 2016 RT, it starts without drama, unlike the 14s where you can brush your teeth while it "Boots" itself in the a**.

That should be a program download too, has anyone heard ? This makes a new one much more attractive and a lot less quirky.

I had the dess issue she didnt strand me and they reprogrammed the keys and it has been ok so far and yes i also brush my teeth waiting for it to boot up.

I have had the dess issue twice ( first time on July 14, 2015& 2nd time was on Aug, 28th 2015).

The first time the dealership replaced the Dess module.( July 14, 2015)

The second time the dealership replaced the dess module( old part # 710004190 ), switch, reprogramed keys, got a new trailer lock. Also, it has been 1 year & 2 months since I have had the dess key code show up.

I am the original one that posted "the Turn on/off immediately and DO NOT LET YOUR SYSTEM SHUT DOWN for 4 to 5 cycles. Also, I started a thread on " DESS KEY CODE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!", By Deanna777.

Both times that I had the dess key code I did not get stranded, and it was covered under warranty. I have a 2014RTS-SE6.

Do you still have warranty on your spyder?

Good luck!
Deanna
