More stuff..that's two in one day!!:dontknow:
As mentioned in my previous post today, I have 13,700 miles on my 2010 RT. When it has been run long enough to get good and hot, I am hearing a metallic sounding rattle coming from within the OEM muffler. Sounds like some baffling is separating when it gets hot... Anyone ever heard of this one?? That too is being looked at by my dealer. Sounds like there may be a new muffler is in my future.. Not only is the paint peeling off my old one, now it's rattling...... I'm hoping ... Len

Mufffler rattle

I have '10 RTS SE with about 18K on it. Prior to going to Maggie Valley for the owners event, I noticed a hissing sound coming from the muffler. While at MV I had the chance to have Curt Otteson listen to it. He suggested that I have the muffler replaced when I got back to my dealer, and if their was any problem, to have them contact him. My dealer ordered and installed the new muffler under warranty. The RT had about 16K on it when this repair took place.

Thanks Retired1

I appreciate your note. I will be very interested as to how my dealer approaches this problem. To date they have been very excellent in dealing with warranty issues on my RT and there have been more than a few.... Thanks again... Retired2......Len

Muffler replacement

The muffler on my RT developed the same "rattle" that was described in your thread, around the same mileage. The first sign of trouble appeared when the paint started to flake off of the muffler near the muffler tip. Next a faint rattle, followed by an ever increasing rattle as the muffler aged. My guess is that the inner pipe, where the two muffler tips extend from the main casing, developed a crack causing a hot spot that melted the paint. As the crack widened the sound became much louder.

Dealer took a picture of the peeling paint and BRP sent a replacement muffler, New muffler works like a charm.

Our experience was a little different, but had a rattle. Up underneath there is a heat-shield that got bent. My guess is from a speed bump that was taller than most, or when placing the MC Floor-jack underneath. I never "Hit" anything and these are just guesses. Bottom line, a simple tug on it made the rattle go away. BTW, my dealer found it as I just thought it was a normal sound for my bike. Evidently it drove our tech nuts and he pulled over during a test drive and gave it a tug :roflblack:. Been great ever since! ;)

I had the same rattling sound and they replaced a part, don't remember what it was (catylitic converter or cracked muffler.) but BRP sent it out under warranty. I too had about 15K miles.

My 010 RT-S at 2500 mi.. The muffler started to rattle. Took it to the dealer. When the muffler came in they called me and we set an appointment date and time. Done deal. Not a big thing.

Good information

I am confident that my dealer will stand with me on this muffler issue, however, if there is any question, I can use these posts as verification that mine isn't an isolated issue and that other dealers and BRP have stood behind the warranty fix...Thanks for all the input. This is an excellent example of just how helpful and informative this site can be... Thank you SL.Com.. Len
