There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Odyssey PC680 or Motobatt MBTX24U

BATTERY NONSENSE

amp Hours is a measure of battery capacity when the battery is pristine & new.

It is not a measure or indication of how long in months a battery will last, how many charge cycles it will be able to withstand or even how much vibration the case can take before it pops a leak.

Batteries are good if they start your vehicle and don't leave you stranded and bad if they don't and do (leave you stranded).

Well I'm heading over to one of the oil threads and explain why Marvel Mystery Oil should be the oil of choice for Kubota tractors ......

Roger, enjoy your Odyssey PC 680 16 amp/hour battery......it's without question a better choice than a 25 amp/hour battery because it's your Battery.......all done with this,Mike......

I SAID I WAS ALL DONE BUT

Truuuuuuuuuuuue. I agree with the writer that AH is A factor. But it isn't the only factor. We have to balance AH with overall ruggedness, internal resistance ( how fast it will discharge with nothing connected), high temp rating, CCA, etc.

When we were at Spyderfest, I wished for more AH when I was running the lights without charging the battery. But at the end of the day, I used old techniques to stretch it, and learned a few new ones. Like I didn't realize until Scotty pointed it out, that the alternator does relatively no good when it is idling. Not until it gets >3000rpm will it actually help. I also learned that on the SE5, you can have enough power to start the bike, but no enough to get it to go into gear!!! And then it will throw codes. And then you have to wait for it to clear. Even with those two items, now that I know... I can work around them in the future when I fire up all of Darth's bling for a show.

So yes.... maximum AH in a package size that works is VERY important, but it is not the only factor, especially on Spyders.

Two things ::,I never said a/h was the only factor and the Spyder does not have an alternator....so Scotty never said that !!!!!!!!!!!

from wikipedia:
A magneto is an electrical generator that uses permanent magnets to produce alternating current. Unlike a dynamo, there is no commutator and so they cannot produce direct current. They are categorised as a form of alternator, although they are usually regarded as distinct from most other alternators, which use field coilsrather than permanent magnets.

Semantics,
I'm sure if you walked into your Spyder dealer and asked for an alternator for your Spyder ,
The parts guy would say, You mean a magneto don't you??
Just saying.

Roger, let me be the first to congratulate you on this discovery. I'm sure the electrical engineers at BRP will be so excited to learn that what they thought was a MAGNETO is actually an ALTERNATOR...I'm also sure they will immediately inform upper management of this monumental discovery and I don't doubt for a minute that they will reward you with a brand new SPYDER of your choice or possibly they will just re-name the alternator " THE ROGER RATTIGAN MEMORIAL ELECTRICAL - THINGY " in your honor.....:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack: Keep the Faith .....Mike.....

Mike- so sorry that I made a bad assumption. I improperly read your post. You were only commenting that the author of that article said that AH was the most important factor. My intention was to agree.... and disagree with the author.

He said-"Selecting a Battery - When buying a new battery I suggest you purchase a battery with the greatest reserve capacity or amp hour rating possible. Of course the physical size, cable hook up, and terminal type must be a consideration. You may want to consider a Gel Cell or an Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) rather than a Wet Cell if the application is in a harsher environment or the battery is not going to receive regular maintenance and charging. "

I think that AH rating is important, but a buyer needs to look at the entire package.

Now... Alternator. You are right again. Scotty would have not used that word. I am wrong. As I think back, I'm not sure he even said the word magnito. I think he simply advised that the battery would not charge unless the RPM was above 3000. The alternator word is mine. Old habit. DC generators went away a long time ago due to the brushes that needed to be maintained and caused a lot of electrical noise due to the sparking. Yes, I realize there are DC generators still around. The Spyder uses a magnito that generates alternating electricity that is then rectified into DC to charge the battery....

So... My apologies for not being accurate Mike.

So... My apologies for not being accurate Mike. Phil, I singled out a/h because that's the only real difference between the two batteries under discussion that I can find, and according to Mr. Rattigan and his expert ALTERNATORS and MAGNETOS are the same as we will soon find out when BRP gets their act together and starts calling their MAGNETOS what Roger says should be ALTERNATORS.......
