• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Now Why Did They Do This??

Here's a puzzler for you...
We already know that BRP designed the Spyder's key in such a manner that it's not easy to hook it to a keychain... :gaah:
So why; in their 2012 Parts, Accessories and Riding Gear catalog, do they sell a Can-Am keychain??
Page 62: Part number CA10A40008...

Maybe it's a diversion. While folks are puzzling over this insignificant item the Spyder's other more important shortcomings are being ignored. :spyder:

I still have trouble understanding people's complaints about the Spyder key and keychains. The key slips into the sheath, which is on a keychain. No problem.

Yes, it is different, but no less effective. It just takes a different mindset to get used to it. Their design protects the area around the ignition switch from scratches by the key chain and any other items on it. In my opinion, what they have done works better than the traditional method. The only drawback is if the sheath wears and no longer hold the key securely. I have not yet had that happen.

There's a member in here who's got a very workable solution coming... :2thumbs:
Honestly; the pessimist in me just keeps whispering in my ear that the fob WILL wear itself loose and my key will end up on the ground somewhere...
So help is on the way... and then I'll buy one of BRP's keychains!!:D

Yeah, but Mark this is SOOooOo convenient! I don't have any problems with scratching around the ignition and my fob is handy when I am pulling into the driveway!

:agree: I have not heard of a sheath giving up the ghost, and all of ours are still doing fine.

I know.. and the IPS is a GREAT solution! :2thumbs: The insurance guy in me just wouldn't shut up about leaving the key in the bike though... :opps:

Thanks Bob, here's the one I exchanged after testing, Hard to see but an extra stitch & seam tighten it right up.

Here's my thing: why even have a key at all? This thing's got enough electrical doodads already, just do a keyless ignition proximity fob and be done with it. If they can have those with a $20,000 car, don't see why they can't have them with a $20,000 bike....

Illegal in NYS.

It's only illegal if you leave it unattended in the ignition. But I do think it was an perfect time for a shameless plug for his product though, I give him :congrats: for that !!!

Oh this is tough...
Legal or not; I think that the IPS does its job in a rather elegant manner...
I had one and gave it a good try; but then in a moment of stupidity, I "sold" it to a :cus: who neglected to pay me... :banghead:
And the moron is a member here too! :gaah::gaah::gaah::gaah:
But the fob that is coming out now allows for a solid mount to a keychain; which makes the pessimist in me sleep a bit better!

:agree:. The IPS serves 2 purposes. Looks really good on the dash:thumbup:. And I bet it makes for a real good equalizer balled up in the fist:doorag:.:thumbup:

Yup! If you DO decide to carry it though; pick up a pouch designed to carry a Speedloader for the vaunted .500 S&W Magnum... :2thumbs:

His product is not illegal but what it is hiding is. Leaving the key in the ignition unattended in NYS is illegal, not sure about other states.

If anyone is interested in the BRP keychain ,I've got a kickstand for the Spyder that you might be interested in !

There's also a liability issue,
Bad guy takes Trike with key in it, Then bad guy hurts someone, At best your insurance Co. might give you a hard time, At worst you might need a lawyer.
