Nothing but problems

Hopefully a cure

I took my spyder in to the shop on Thursday. I did not inquire about status until today. (When I bought the Spyder From Louis Powersports in Greenville, TX, I asked the sales representative about the recalls and updates. I was assured that all had been completed.) Melvin at Central Powersports in Georgetown, TX called BRP. All updates and recalls had been completed or at least BRP had reimbursed Louis Powersports for the completed work. Melvin found the problem, GROUND STRAP UPDATE NOT DONE:gaah:. Talk about being unprofessional. Melvin completed the update and test rode my spyder for 16 miles without incident of the shifter getting stuck. I wish there was a way to punish Louis Powersports for the aggravation they have put me through. I will pick up my spyder tomorrow and will give it a good test.

Wow, that is just nuts. I am very sorry for all of the aggravation you have gone through. Hopefully the ground strap update cures your issues and you will quickly join the ranks of Happy Spyder Owners.

Very happy for you. I have been watching this thread develop. Don't know how far this "louis powersports" is from you, but I think I would make it a point to pay them a personal and very pointed visit. Hope everything is smooth sailing from here on out. :f_spider:

I agree with attadude. It is becoming increasingly more of a hassle on this forum to have an opinion on something without being chastised and verbally raked over by others. It was just suggested that a person be aware of the lemon law. Nothing was stated that the owner with the bike problems should show up at his dealer with lawsuit in hand and several lawyers. :yikes:

:agree: And, I'm on one or more person's ignore list b/c another member and I had a disagreement, which has since been worked out.

Oh, let me not be rude.

oceanbreeze851,

Glad it looks like your spyder has been fixed. I hope no more problems.

This is great news! Nothing like finding a specific cause to a specific problem.

Enjoy! :2thumbs:

I looked forward to today, taking the spyder in to fix the problem and for 600 miles service. 15 miles to Central Texas Powersports. After 2 miles, Spyder locked up in 3rd, only able to do 26 to 29 mph without violent vibration. Pulled off the road and turned off the spyder to cool down for 10 minutes. Continued my trip without incidence until I got to the shop. Shifted into neutral and unable to shift out. When the shop personnel move the spyder into the shop, no problem. They could not find any problem so they completed the 600 mile service. After the service, the mechanic took the bike out for a test drive and it lock up in 2nd gear. Fault codes indicated battery over charged, under charged or switch fault. Upon futher investigation, decision was made to change battery. I'm out the door $329 lighter for the 600 mile service. Drove about 2.3 miles when It locked up in 1st. Cooled my heels for 10 minutes and called the shop, closed for the day. Drove toward home without further problems until 1 mile from the house. I was a red light in first gear, light turned green and nothing. Spyder would not move. Acted like it was in neutral but indicator was first. Pushed spyder to the side of the road and turned it off. After 10 minutes, started without problems in neutral and shifted to first and made it home. I love the spyder but reliabilty is a problem. :cus: I can not understand how a company could put a product on the road with this many problems. Is it the company or the dealership on preparing the bike?:helpsmilie:

Thats exactly why I traded mine back in. Lost my butt but' it was worth it. Can-Am refuses to turn loose of their BUDS system and the dealers seem to be overwhelmed. Think most of it is major ground problems. I even looked at 2 others and both had to have other recalls done. I just backed out not that I don't like the Spyder I LOVE IT!!! But' they need to do away with some of them computers and allow other shops to help them out with repairs.Maybe later down the road they will have them electrical problems figured out. I hope so as I would love to try it again one day.

The snide comments are no longer a problem since I started using the "ignore" function on the User Control Panel. It works well! :D

Pretty amazing that a ground strap (or lack thereof) can have such dramatic effects on things. When you think about how much electronics this machine has, however, I guess it makes sense. Very glad to hear that the root cause has been found.

As for Louis Power Sports... Some would want to confront them about the incompetence displayed. Some are of the opine that it is not worth the trouble and drama to do so. I am somewhere in the middle on this one. And by in the middle, I mean no direct confrontation, but let them know in writing that they will be exposed to the community for their actions and maybe even to BRP. BRP needs to know when dealers do shady things like this. It isn't right, borders on illegal and is just not the way an authorized BRP dealer should behave.

Bottom line here is that you are back on the road. Congrats and enjoy!

:agree: It does make sense. Canbus seems to be pretty sensitive to outside EMF interference, so there is no telling what kind of issues the bad ground strap could cause.

kmakona: Yessss, dealers for :spyder2: in Alaska. 1 in Eagle River, 1 in Wasilla and 1, I fail to mention. I believe there are also 2 other dealers--but do not know anything specific about them. Surprising no dealer in HI--but that is probably because it would not be profitable to sell snomobiles--although--now that I think about it---they would probably sell a lot of seadoos. With all the motorcyle rental places--I am suprised someone has not picked up on :spyder2: in HI.

Louis powersports sucks

After getting my first purchased squared away with them (see my previous posts) I decided they were not that bad. I told Jason the finance guy that i would be back to buy another spyder once i sell my fifth wheel. He told me to come see him and he will take care of me. I went back last week for the 600 miles service ( it took my 6 months to get six hundred miles because it was just too damn hot out). But anyways i took it to them which is a 2.5 hour drive to get the service done while i wait. I had an appointment so everyone knew i was coming. I went to go see Jason to purchase another one since i did sell the fifth wheel. I knocked on his open door he glanced at me for a second then went back to his computer and said what do you want. I said you told me to come see you when i am ready to buy another spyder. Without even looking at me he told one of his sales guys to see what i needed. At that point he was totally disrespectful, so i followed his sales guy to his desk and told him i want an out the door price for a rss sm5 he said 14999. I said great i will take it otd for 14999 he then stated i needed to pay dealer fees ttl. I said ok lets try this again figure out how much it is going to cost me otd. He said he did not have those #s in front of him and sat down and asked if i was going to buy it today. I just got pissed at this point since it was starting to go in the direction of the first sale i had with them. I said well i was going to buy today but forget it since you dont know how to find the otd price for me as if you have anything else to do ( i was the only one in the store at this time). So i got my spyder back and went home. I will never deal with them again and will do everything i can to get others not to deal with them. The sales people even have bad feedback on ebay for trying to add fees to sales of bikes they sell on there.
