There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Nothing but problems

I bought my 2009 SE5 on 4/4/11. It only had 0.5 miles on it. Louis powersports claimed all the recalls had been completed prior to my purchase. I trailered my spyder to Leander, TX. With 33 miles on the spyder, it went into the shop for a DPS problem. Recall had been done but the spyder had not been zeroed after the recall. I then put 300 mile without problems until 4/30/11 when it would not shift from neutral. I was able to mover the spyder about 15 feet and it shifted to first. Today, 5/5/11, check engine light came on and it was in limp mode. Called the local dealership, I quess I will get the 600 mile check up early will it is in the shop. Only has 402 miles on it.

Sorry for all the problems. Sounds like the dealer you purchased it from didn't do anything but wipe it off and put a for sale sign on it. :gaah:

I would have the battery checked out. If it's the original from 2009 and hasn't been on a tender then I would have it replaced. I would also get a battery tender and use it at least once a week. If you're having your dealer replace the battery then have them install battery tender cable so you can just plug in to charge.

The spyder is VERY particular about having a good battery and proper charge. Many problems like you're having can be caused by bad battery.

On 5/6/11, I went out to the garage and started my spyder up. No check engine light, no limp home mode. :clap:Went for a ride and bought Star-tron gas additive at the local Home Depot. Filled up with gas and additive, rode for 20 miles with immediate results. Less vibrations, smoother idle, appears more responsive. I will have 600 mile check on Wednesday.:2excited:

Sorry to hear about all of your issues. Sounds like a combination of things not all necessarily the Spyder's fault. I'd say the original dealer knew you woudln't be back and didn't really care.

Hopefully, you can get everything right and get a bunch of trouble free miles like most everyone else.

:welcome: Sorry to hear of your issues with the new Spyder. It sounds like dealer issues or probably a bad battery. Have it serviced elsewhere and give the Spyder a chance.

just what every body is telling you and always make sure all the battery cables are tight,an all the relays are all the way in i check mine every 500 miles and found loose two times so keep a good eye on them, also i keep a battery tender on all the time but when i ride, and one more inportant thing dont let your foot tuch the brake in tell your going to stop.it will through you in limp mode faster than any thing.have fun and ride like the wind.:2thumbs::chat:

Never ending problems. Today I thought I would go out for a little ride to try and work the bugs out. After 20 miles of no problems returned home and stoped at the local supermarket. Returned to the spyder and started up without problems but would not go into gear. Attempted to shift into first, no luck. Turned off machine and sat for 5 minutes. Started spyder up and and shifted into first. Headed out of the parking lot and would not go into 2nd. Limped home in first gear. I am fustrated. I am afraid to take any trip away from the house. Reliability issues at this point. Thanks to everyone for their input. I have checked the battery and it was tight. I do not see how the battery could be the root of any of my troubles. I am very mechanically inclined, next purchase will be Service Repair Manual.:cus:

Actually, a bad battery, bad battery connections, or loose relays can be the root of endless problems on the Spyder, since most of it works through electronics or electricity. That being said, you usually get a host of fault codes and displayed warnings when you have that type of problem. Still could be at the heart of things, however. As to the shifting, check the oil level. The SE is very sensitive to proper oil level. Be sure to have the engine at full operating temperature, and check according to the procedure in the manual. Overfilling will put oil into the airbox. At the first opportunity, I think I would change the oil and both filters, too. Beyond that, you may need a computer diagnostic and a good Spyder tech to get you going. Your problems are not common, but almost anything is possible when buying something used. If there is another dealer nearby, I'd lean toward using them.

Thanks, Nancy. I agree these would be problems if this spyder was used but I bought it new with 0.5 miles on it. I putting my trust in the local dealership in Georgetown, TX. (Not where I bought the spyder.) It goes into the shop on Wednesday to correct the problems and the early 600 mile check-up.

I agree with Scotty, Check the oil level, Easy enough to do, if it is low that could be causing the shifting problem,
Just because it's new it doesn't mean the oil is at the proper level.

Also check and make sure the 'ground update' has been done. That was known to cause strange problems on SE's....

I'm still thinking bad battery.....

Yep check the oil level

I had a similar issue with my RTSE5....it was oil was low. Scotty (Nancy's Toy) is right on with his suggestions...

Today I decided to do maintenance. Removed the tupperware from the leftside and checked the oil. No problem. Removed the battery (no loose connectors). Put the battery on my 2 Amp charger and cleaned the battery terminals. Returned the battery to the spyder and secured it tightly. Replaced the tupperware and everything connected. Amazingly no spare parts. Ready for a ride tomorrow. :spyder2:

Problems continue

Went for a ride today to see if all the bugs were gone. Drove for about 30 highway miles no problems, then turned around to go home and slowed down. Spyder locked up in 2nd. Would not down shift or up shift. Since it was afternoon, decided to cool down and have lunch. After an hour, started up and no problems. Drove home and stopped at the local convienence store 1/2 mile from home. 5 minutes later, in first will not shift up of down. Turned off and cooled my heels for a few minutes. When I turned the key to start the sypder, I did not have to push the mode button. Read out told me the parking brake was on. Started the spyder and drove home in first. Parked in the driveway and let the sypder cool down. Hour later sarted without problems. Shifted to reversed and put spyder in the garage. I want to go for a long ride but I also want to be able to return home. Dependability Is a real issue. I am schedule to take the spyder in to the shop tomorrow afternoon. I have documented the problems and the milage to tell the dealership. Also I will get the 600 mile check done early. I wish I had some answers. Love to ride.:gaah:

Sounds like tomorrow you should get some answers, I'm confident it is a small problem wait till dealer looks at it.

In the mean time Relax

Oh please--- it's hardly to that point. He hasn't even had it checked out by the dealer.

-----------------

REally sorry you're having these problems-- but it's probably something pretty easy for your dealer to diagnose and fix. The problems are not just going to magically go away--- continuing to attempt to ride it is only going to add to your frustrations. Park it and get it to the dealer.
