• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Not shifting out of 5th gear

I have a 2011 RSS semi automatic. I was driving last night and when i came to stop it did not downshift to 1st gear. Then check engine scrolled across. Has this ever happened to you? Suggestions?

Little checking..!!

first thing is check your oil level and condition.(when was oil and filters changed last). Take key out and walk away. Then go through your starting proceedure. If it does not shift there is a manual proceedure to shift. You need a wrench from your tool kit to do it. Your owners manual should show you....there are threads on the subject. Has happened to many..good luck...

Check to see if the shift lever fell off. It is a common problem. If it did then slip it back on the spline shaft and tighten the pinch bolt. See item 46.

Thanks

Billy, thanks shift lever was off. Now it is 1st but still won't switch. I added oil, but it put to much. Could that stop it from shifting properly?

You might try "playing" with how the parts "move" together; there coul be a very particular way that they need to be aligned in order to work properly...

The oil levels in an SE-5 equipped bike will definitely affect the shifting; it's one of the first things to check if things start acting... unuaual!

Check 2 things.
Did you put the lever on far enough? The spline shaft needs to stick out of the shift lever a few mm.
Normally you can just take the shift lever and slide it back on and everything will line up. Did you loosen any jam nuts and get the shifter out of alignment?

Edit add: Too much oil in the oil tank will not affect the shifting but should be removed. Get a turkey baster and suck some out.
