• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Need more info:

How old is Spyder?
Which Model?
HAve you had recent updates done?

Oil in the airbox is normal.

If the problem is 'stuttering' around 3000 - 4000 RPMs --- it's most likely due to the new steering update-- which also made changes to the purge valve.

Do a search out here for Purge Valve or Evap Canister------

Although what Fire is recommending is working for many, I'm not one to perform surgery on my bike to fix what should have been a simple update...

I'd go to the dealer and have them poke around. The bike is under warranty and they should be willing to help you.

As far as removing parts from the bike and fiddling around, you might void your warranty, depending on what the dealer thinks...

Keep adjusting your JB. Mine always had low speed surging and sputtering in the 3800-4200 range, even before the update. I did not purchase the JB until after the update and I'm still tweaking it. I have a Hindle and green air filter. My last settings, which so far are working real good are .5,7,7,7,2,2 I have no surging, so far in the 3800-4200 range, but I've only put 100 miles on it since I've changed settings. The previous settings were .5,6,6,7,.5,.5 and I was getting surging in the same range.

I didn't realize you were getting surging before the update....I haven't been on the bike enough since the update to really fiddle with the JB...hope to get some miles in sooner or later...will be fun to play with the JB again...

Fleet2904...

my 2008 SM5 did the same thing after the update. It has the Hindle. Mine was running fine until the update. after that it spit, sputtered and surged. I have a temp solution that helped mine until I can get it back to the dealer. Part of the problem seems to be low back pressure on the Hindles and TBSs.
I pushed a walmart stainless pot scrubber pad in the end of the muffler. It now runs just like it did before the update... smooooooooooth... no spitting, sputtering or surging and plenty of power to smoke the tire.

I'm certain some are laughing about this but it is working and it doesn't put much b/p on the system. Just enough to help it run normally.

First dealer I went to didn't do everything they were supposed to during the update and I had the same results as you. No matter how I adjusted JB it didn't help. Tried another dealer they redid the download, recalibrated everything and cleared out all of the fault codes, and now it runs great again. I would have dealer try again if it was me.

sometimes the simplest solutions are the best.

Did I mention that it is...

going back to the dealer for another try at the update? The walmart stainless scrubber is only a temporary fix.

What I was really doing was toning the Hindle down a bit but it worked for the other problem too!

That's your best bet...save the pot scrubber for the pots! :joke:

KRB, yeah, it sounds funny, but it is very clever. For those people with after market pipes and update problems, this should be a test they perform along with the evap canister pinching. Each separately and together.

And yes, ( as you say above ) it is a temporary mod, but it will sure help in diagnosing where a problem is or isn't.

Just got back ahead of the rain...

and the SM5 with the Hindle and pot scrubber is running "smooth as silk". No hesitation from the back pressure just pure raw horse power wanting to run.

No surge, no spitting, no sputtering and no hesitation. I really like a smooth running engine. :thumbup:Even if part of it does come from Wal-Mart.

Hey, Ken. How're the GL1800 exhausts coming along?
