• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Not again!?!?!?!?!?

dltang is finally going to be going without a back fender, not because of her desire for the look but because we have had the worst luck with those rear fender brackets on both of our Spyders. Here's what happened to hers this past week....

This was her second set of fender brackets and I've repaired the bracket mounting tabs on the swingarm 3 times on each side also. :gaah:

Wow. I have seen more and more of these brackets fail. I would love to see BRP replace the metal fender with a fiberglass or ABS plastic upgrade.

Sorry about your fender.....Did BRP jump to the pump on this or was it not considered part of the warranty?

I fixed my left side and I just noticed my right side is doing the same thing. I think in my case it may be the heavy Corbin fender but it could just be bad roads as I was in Canada and those roads were pretty bad. :dontknow:

I'm on my 2nd set as well and for what they do I think they could make them out of plastic or fiberglass as the metal seems to fatigue after awhile ?:dontknow:.

Mine are a bear to change as I've got the Corbin hard bags.

Bummer... hope you can get it fixed... but I'm thinking this is just the nature of the beast. My rear fender is never going back on. Makes it so much easier to clean and do work back there.....

Not to mention it looks badd :cus: with fender removed!

The rain isn't really a big issue for me---- now the guy behind me---- well-- perhaps he shouldn't be riding that close anyway..... :roflblack:

Seriously though, I rarely ride in the rain--- maybe a handful of times each year.

Mine cracked along the same lines as yours, as well as having the swing-arm tab on the exhaust side break off.

My teeth are still rattling from the roads.

My bracket was also effected and broken.. Good ole duck tape repair ( thanks Harvey ) from Quebec to Florida.

I'm beginning to wonder how much it would take to build a set of brackets to mount the stock fender right under the tailpiece, and get rid of all the stuff closing in the rear wheel.

I think these could be reinforced so that they would not break very easily. That would involve completely stripping them, first. Better to do it with a fresh bracket, and not a cracked one. It would also require strengthening the attachment tabs on the swingarm. JMHO

Tough nut to crack, from an engineering standpoint....a cantilevered bracket, with an attached weight (fender/light), that is not sprung or suspended, and takes every jolt the road can provide. Stamping the bracket, which creates stress points, does not help. I think it could be overcome, though. They could use Michigan roads for testing. We can give Canada a good run for its money.

Our roads are nasty. Quebec is horrible though. Their bridges fall apart with cars on them.lol

Maybe Repops or someone can come up with a cool billet replacement. Bling it up a little and make it bullet proof at the same time.

Someone suggested to me that a probable cause is the retaining bolts getting a little loose over time and causing vibration in the holes and putting stress on the bracket. Not loose enough to notice, but loose enough non-the-less.

I had the same problem on both of my Spyders. BRP covers it under the warranty, but this doesn't make it O.K.

+1 We've already had a warranty repair on both our Spyders for this same reason once before. I just am tired of having to go that route. Also, my fender bracket tab (on the swingarm) repair is 100 times better than what the dealer did for me under warranty. Debbie is initially going fenderless with one of my old license plate mounts until we can decide what to do for her permanently. She wants a fender mounted under the undertail pan like others have done, I just need to find a good way to brace that up.

been there

I just lost the fender and license plate last week. Brackets fail, let's trade phone, I gotta call BRP and give them sh_t in French Canadian. Two people is not a coincidence. I'm josh at 248-202-1544, will text you pics of mine.

:gaah:Got back from the dealer today and both rear fender bracket where cracked and broken.Dealer said No warranty what a bummer, he tells me that they have sold 90 spyders since 08,and mine was the frist broken brackets:dontknow:. Had to order 2 bracket & 2 red reflectors -$115.00 CDN. I Hope they last.
