• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Not a so great four-days with the RTS...

Did I tell you about the one time my Spyder left me sit...

Showing it to my friends and went to start it up and... nothing...

Just after they left, I realized I had nudged the kill switch...

Duh... :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Hope it gets fixed

Greg,

I was really disappointed this morning when I got your email. You told me about the ride coming up last week and how excited you were to show off the RT (and it's power) to the group. Now to hear you had some many problems. I hope our dealer can get it fixed right the first time.

I will be getting a RED RT next spring (hope they keep the red for another year). I'm hopping that by next year they have all the bugs worked out, (without creating anymore).

Hang in there!

Jeff

Hey Jeff... thanks. I am adding an update after this. We should be up and running soon.

UPDATE:

I just talked to the dealer. They replaced the throttle-body and yes there was damage to the "actuator" (I believe that is what he said).

He said most wouldn't notice the damage, but when compared side by side he could tell. I asked him if that is something I could take a picture of to share what the difference was and he said "no". He said no one would be able to tell from a photo.

In addition to that they updated the software one more time, and also provided a service bulletin regarding "water infiltration" to the radio. They installed whatever that was to prevent water damage to the radio. This was something I was entirely unaware of. He said he saw it on the download for my Spyder and ordered it to be installed.

The bike will be available for pickup tomorrow if their test-ride works out. He said he is confident it will. However, I am having a surgery procedure done in the morning on my back (which is the main reason I bought a Spyder), so I wouldn't be able to pick it up until Saturday anyway...

So... while I was (and still am a bit) ticked-off about this seemingly prevalent problem with RT's, I am glad the dealer got on top of it and got it repaired as quickly as getting the parts allowed them to do so.

Mission accomplished...

I'm glad to hear they fixed it. Sounds like they are getting better with their work. I don't go there much as I prefer to do all the work myself.

FINAL UPDATE:

Picked-up the Spyder this morning. The dealer had it done yesterday, but I couldn't get it then.

After riding it home I can say that the unit runs well.

It runs a lot smoother, and seems to shift a lot smoother as well (although I am not sure how a throttle-body can make any difference in shifting; but then again, I am not a mechanic).

So... after all is said and done... I am back in the saddle thanks to my dealer "getting on it", and BRP for providing the parts and labor to fix it.

As mentioned, I also had the "water infiltration" problem fixed as per a service-bulletin by BRP while it was there.

I'll probably head out a bit later today once the rain passes-by...:D

Despite the fact I started this thread spouting my displeasure about my experience, I really don't want this to turn into a gripe-session.

I know... I just should have kept my mouth shut then... but I didn't. I regret that...

My dealer called me to say they removed the throttle body and have confirmed it to be the problem (along with the codes). They have ordered the parts today and told me they will have it running by the weekend.

Again, my hope is that this isn't an ongoing problem. My dealer doesn't think it will be. They said there were some software problems related to how the computer allows the RTS to restart faster without having to completely re-boot the computer when it has just been ridden a short time before the stop (like stopping for gas and such). Somehow that process was mechanically causing damage to the throttle-body (if I understood him correctly).

Apparently if the software updates were completed before any damage occurs one might not have any problems with the TB later. Apparently in my case some damage had occurred and only got worse. (Yes, I have all the latest updates -- about three or four of them since I bought it in Aug of 2011.)

My dealer said I shouldn't be too worried about it after they fix it because none of the Spyders they replaced the TB's in have had any more trouble; and a few of them have racked-up quite a few "trouble-free" miles since having it done.

Anyway... I am hoping so.

Now for a barley-sandwich...

Whats this about software problems and restart without rebooting the computer? Is it not supposed to do this?Scotty or Bob? Did your bike display any subtle changes prior to the catastrophic and otherwise embarrassing failure?
