• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. North to Alaska

By the way, when you come through Tok, if you end up staying here look up Cleft of the Rock Bed & Breakfast on google and stay at one of the cabins. You'll love it. I'm here right now until the 17th of July. My Spyder is in Emmett Idaho and I haven't been able to ride it for over a year now being stuck here in Tok with the Coast Guard at the Loran Station. You'll see the 4 700' towers about 7 miles outside of Tok when you're coming from Canada...kind of hard to miss. But while you are here check out Mukluk Land.
will try have been hitting & missing with the internet Hope to reach white horse tomorrow.:2thumbs: getting closer.

We are also heading out on our trip on the 9th. We are going to Tok, Whitehorse, and Skagway before returning to Eagle River. Looks like we may cross paths. We are the black RTS and the Corbinized Red RS.
I don't know what your time line is but will keep an eye out for you. looks like I could be there tomorrow 7/12 :dontknow:  depends on the rain.

Alaska trip

Sorry I missed you, by the time i got to lethbridge i was worn out and didn't get on this site. we'll meet some time thank you for think about me.
No worries, hope all is well. Have done it before in a truck, very nice except for the weather. just got my Spyder back so would not have worked anyway. Hope the journey goes well and keep posting. Thanks.:2thumbs:

Just returned from our trip to Whitehorse/Skagway. Here is a road advisory for BMW. The last 120 miles to the Alaska/Canadian border (from Destruction Bay on Lake Kluane to the Alaska border) has severe road damage due to frost heaves. Make sure you gas up at Destruction Bay as there are no gas or services for 108 miles. Watch your speed, and look for the frost heaves (mostly marked by orange flags). You will have to slow down to 15 to 20 mph or less on some of them in order not to bottom out. Since the road is so deserted, we would usually go to the other side of the road (when possible) to avoid the heaves. There are a couple that are as deep as a bathtub. One is outlined in white paint stripes, the other is outlined in green--avoid these at all costs. The scenery is stunning all the way from Whitehorse, so enjoy it in spite of the road damage. The area around Kluane Lake is the best scenery on that leg of the trip. We covered 1700 plus miles on our 09 RS and 10 RT. Both bikes performed flawlessly and we had no mechanical troubles of any kind. We are glad for that, since the nearest dealer or repairs was back at home in Eagle River, AK. We also took a side trip down the Klondike Highway to Skagway from Whitehorse. This route followed one of the routes the gold rush miners took. Stunning scenery all the way. Im sure you are enjoying all the interesting people and the attention that the Spyder generates.

Pictures? How was your weather?

I will have a few pictures to add to the Alaska Album #2--but that will take a couple of days. The problem with pictures in this type of country is that the country is so "BIG" that the small pocket cameras just don't do the scenery justice. Most of the vistas are 20 to 30 mile wide valleys covered with trees and backgrounded by very big mountain ranges (sometimes 2 and 3 deep). Add the occasional lake or river winding through the valley, and you get the idea. We did take some close up photos of pretty lakes, some phtoes in Whitehorse, Skagway, Tok etc. We see so much of this back home in Alaska that we have learned to enjoy the scenery of the moment, but we don't take a lot of pictures anymore. As far as weather went, we considered the trip to be perfect. There was shower activity behind us and ahead of us most of the trip. We got drizzeled on going over the pass into Skagway, and we got drizzeled on between Glenallen and Palmer. We never really got wet on the whole trip. How's that for luck?

Glad to hear you had a good trip. I was one day behind you Distruction Bay. Am no in Fairbanks And running to Denali tommorow. Will contact you by pm when i leave there. I was running just right for the rain into tok. took a day off, Then it rained most of the day not hard but enough to get you wet.

we will look forward to hearing from you. enjoy Denali--if you dont take the bus on the extended tour--you can still ride 15 miles into the park to the Savage Creek bridge. The Denali scenery is very spectacular. Expect gravel road and flaggers when you get down to about mile post 76 below Talkeetna cutoff. Only a couple miles though. If you have time, you should take the side trip into the town of Talkeetna--this is a real interesting place to visit.

Made the ride from Denali today. rained all the way. not a downpour but enough to get a person wet. arrived in Wasilla wet and looking to get out of the weather. lol :gaah:I can't find a good day to ride.

RE: the weather--Both June & July have been a bit on the gloomy side with scattered showers to be found in a lot of places in AK. :gaah: Saturday was nice--hope that worked for you. There have been some bright sunny days--but they have been few and far between all this summer. We just get up and go when we get the chance--let the weather be darned!
