• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Non BRP Hitch.

There might be a thread on this already but i can't find it so sorry if i'm doubling up. I have a 2014 RT Limited and would like to put a aftermarket hitch on it since i cannot see spending $ 500 plus for a BRP hitch, some will say well if you can afford a spyder you can afford the BRP hitch, Not in my case. The question i have is if i get a aftermarket hitch will it void my extended warranty in any way incase something happens? And if it won't is there a aftermarket hitch you guys could recommend ? Thank you for takeing the time.... Craig & Lori

I don't think of void your warranty but you could always take it off before and take it into the dealer for warranty work

WARRANTY & HITCH

You are protected by the Moss-Magnusson Act ....which means in simple terms BRP would have to prove the After-market HITCH ..... CAUSED THE DAMAGE ....Value Accessories ( a vendor here ) has a nice Hitch a good price....That many here have already put on their Spyders.........I've built 7 or so and never had any problems with any of them....frankly it's not rocket science.......Just get one similar to BRP's ie. it bolts thru / over the AXEL ...you do not remove AXEL to put it on.........Mike :bbq:

Remember: BRP's hitch will come with all of the necessary wiring, so that you can actually hook up the lights of the trailer. Will your aftermarket hitch come similarly-equipped? :dontknow:

Actually Bob I don't think it comes with the wiring harness.......I'm pretty sure that's a separate item :dontknow: :banghead:.....Mike :bbq:

Harness is included. Part number 432219400 (hitch) "Kit comes complete with wiring components and full-function light light control module." Plug and play. Also includes mudflap.

This is what you get.

The BRP hitch for a 2010 to 2016 RT. Picture below. The ST hitch is the same, but has an extra bracket and wiring harness to relocate the license plate and light.

Thanks "Billy" , that makes it much more clear.

Couple of points i would like to make.

Warranty. No aftermarket add-on will void your warranty. If the aftermarket add-on directly causes something to break. Of course BRP should not responsible for that. Also if something breaks due to materials and workmanship from BRP. Not related to the aftermarket add-ons. BRP will cover under the terms of the warranty. Only fair right?

The BRP hitch is a complete kit with everything you need to install to your Spyder with simple hand tools. Nothing else to buy as long as your trailer has a 4 square plug?

An aftermarket hitch like the Show Chrome one from Big Bike Parts. The hitch itself installs basically the same way as a BRP hitch. Does not come with a mudflap. You will have to buy that extra or make one. It does come with the bolts and brackets for one. Does not come with a ball. Will have to buy one of them. Does not come with the wiring harness. I custom made my own but more likely you have to buy one of theirs. It is not as easy to install but not real hard either. That is subjective to the skills available. The wiring harness from big bike parts does not come with a trailer plug. Will have to buy one of those to match your trailer. If your trailer comes with 4 wire plug. Then you will have to buy and install a 3 to 2 converter before the plug on the Spyder.

Not counting labour I think you would save about $150 with the aftermarket hitch.

Big Bike Parts hitch 225.00
Wiring 68.00
Ball(walmart) 10.00
Mudflap 27.00
Total 330.00

BRP hitch 530.00

savings 200.00

You decide

Non-BRP Hitch

I bought a non-BRP hitch on ebay for $75 and a wiring module from an auto parts store for $25. I put it on a 2012 RTS and it worked just fine. It didn't affect my warranty when the water pump seals failed. Only problem is if the hitch causes a failure. I transfered the hitch and wiring to my 2015 RTS. I also pull a non-BRP trailer.

Does anyone know of a how to video on how to install the trailer hitch wiring ?
If not, study the diagram and pics in my post I link to above. I think you can figure it out from those. The BRP harness is truly plug 'n play. Don't know about the after market ones. The one I made is plug 'n play.
