• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

No guts No glory this year for sure

Thanks for the update. It was a no go in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Very good to know and my apology to Mike Kneebone and IBA.:opps:

You are a scholar and a gentleman, my friend! I hope to have the pleasure and honor of ryding in a Rally with you some day. (Maybe the G&G?;))

With all due respect, I have to disagree with #2. I have personally corresponded with Mike Kneebone about three wheels participating in the Iron Butt Rally. He stated that three wheels (conventional trike, Spyder, whatever) are welcome to take part in the IBR. They just can't be "enclosed" like some of the highly modified trikes are. I was planning on applying for the 2011 Iron Butt Rally last fall (as a Spyder Ryder), but decided not to do so due to financial concerns. Bottom line, Spyders (unenclosed three-wheelers) CAN participate in the Iron Butt Rally - direct from Mike Kneebone.:yes::yes::yes::yes: Still, it's a horrible travesty what happened to the G&G Rally.

I hear this guy has connections with Mr. Hip? :D:yes: Sorry...couldn't resist...

I had word a couple of days ago that this might happen but now it's pretty much official. I can't tell you how disappointed I am right now but in some ways relieved so I can make other plans. Thank you all for your support and maybe next year we can get a few more Spyders involved.
Actually that ain't so bad. I'll be retired as of June 1 and maybe I can join you for the 2012 G&G Ride.

Facts:
1. Hookah Hey doesn't allow Spyders to compete.
2. IBA Rally doesn't allow Spyders to compete.
3. BRP doesn't organize a completion for Spyders.
4. Guts & Glory postponed.

Doc, I know this is bitter sweet in a way for you (refering to #3). Maybe this will allow you more time to let BRP Execs think about this and I'm sure a lot of us :spyder2:owners can let BRP know about our feelings on this issue in Maggie Valley.

bah hum bug:yikes:

+1 What he said!

+2:agree::agree:

:agree:X 1,000,000 I know Lamont, Doc and other :spyder2:lovers were looking forward to it. I would have done a leg myself, but I wasn't near one without taking too many days off from work.:gaah:

Here is another article. I just find it interesting that people think they can virtually "copyright" a ride across the US.
...that reminds me somebody who said he "invented the Internet".:hun:

Well, according to that article the G&G people (who were previously affiliated with the Hoka) signed a Non-Compete agreement stating they wouldn't create a similar rally. Not sure of the details of course, but if you sign something agreeing not to do something and then do it--- yer asking for trouble. Not saying it's right or wrong, but if the G&G guys really signed such a non-compete agreement-- they should have known better than to organize this rally.....

Such agreements are common in the business world, and legal opinions vary on how well they actually hold up in court.

If a person works for the ACME company making widgets, decides to leave that company and signs an agreement not to make similar widgets for a certain period of time (which would take business away from ACME) -- then I do feel ACME should be able to protect itself.

This situation is a bit different due to the 'product' being 'sold', but the basic idea of protection of product is there.

Really too bad any way you look at it. One of us could legally create such a rally and Hoka can't stop us--- how about a Huligan rally--- :D

I was very jealous of your Guts & Glory trip, I have a daughter graduating HS at the end of May and just couldn't take the time this year. I am sad for all of you that had been planning and arranging schedules for such a worthy cause. The silver lining in this cloud for me is I have no children graduating next May 2012 so I might partake in the BIG adventure.

My 2 cents:

Hoka Hey Rules:
Motorcycles:
This year's event will be open to riders of all Harley-Davidson® motorcycles.

Guts and Glory should have just not allowed Harleys to participate. Then there would be no issues. Regardless, Many riders of Yamahas , Suzukis and Spyders and Ducatis etc. would love an event like this. However they can't have one because another event exists (Hoka Hey) that they aren't even allowed to participate in????? So if I ride a Harley I can enroll in an event like this , if I have a Suzuki, not so much. Ridiculous, non-competes aside. :cus:
