No fenders and tire sizes

So I have been doing a lot of research on tire sizes that will work with stock fenders. My fenders have been sleeping soundly in the garage for the past 2 yrs with no plan to put them back on. I am not saying I want to go as big as I can since I don't have fenders but what is a smart way to approach this? I am scared of getting into trouble with the nanny too. I have found a few threads that have said that no one has reported issues with going to a bigger size and that going a step or two up will actually make the speedo a bit more accurate? Right now I am looking at the Kumho Ecsta AST (stock size) for the back and Falken Ziex ZE-512 for the front (185/60R14) Thoughts?

I've stated this 10 or more times before but here goes.................My research shows that the Yokohama " S " Drive 185/55-14 will work on the front of all Spyders from 2008 to 2013 with or without fenders.........This is a very highly recommended tire ( according to Tire Rack ) and is a " V " speed rated tire .....It can be purchased for around $ 80 per tire.............Your welcome , Mike :thumbup:..............PS as another bonus this tire has the largest footprint ( for similar sizes ) according to specs from Yokohama,...............and it will not upset the "Nanny"

Bob I know you've posted this before but there is a flaw here .....it's a Mathimatical measurement.......in the real world of tires what Goodyear calls a 225/50-15, is not what a B.F. Goodrich will measure out to be ( or probably anyone else's either ).......i.e. the circumference is not going to be the same ......and the Circumference of a tire is the only true factor that matters. The Tire Rack lists in the SPECS how many revolutions per mile each tire size will have, and this way you can accurately measure the same tire sizes from different makers against each other ..........Mike :thumbup:

Circumference Formula

Pi times the diameter (twice the radius) equals the circumference. You can run this on any calculator using the Pi symbol key. Revolutions per mile is 5280x12 divided by the circumference or 5280 divided by the (circumference divided by 12). The first way converts a mile in feet to a mile in inches. The second way converts the circumference in inches to circumference in feet.

You cannot simply divide the circumference into 5280 ft and get revs per mile. Tires are not round in use. They have a large flat spot where the contact the ground. Different tire constructions will result in tires of the same circumference using a different number of revs pre mile. Use the tire manufacturers specs to compare, not a mathematical calculation.

Also its difficult to compare widths. Tires are not flat across with square edges. The tire section widths can be the same with very different effective contact patches. Again, compare mfg specs, not size numbers.

Would like a more milage tire. Then after I get the tire, do I just take to dealership and let them install? Do they mount on wheel etc.

bot my KUMHO @ Billy Brown's Tire & Muffler here in Greenville, SC... took the tire to POWERSPORTS of GREENVILLE, and Bridgette (Service Mgr.) had it mounted for me....

my 1st KUMHO, i got 25,000 out of... i'm on my 2nd now.... gr8 tire...

So IF you go by the tire comparison chart, the yokohama is going to be 0.4in shorter but 0.78in wider?

you're right.... the REV's PER MILE is determined by the depth of the tread.... @ least that's what i've been told.... the depth changes the diameter of the tire... for whatever reason, the 225 is to the bottom of the thread.... strange, i know... i wish i knew egg-zak-lee how the various tire manufacturers figured these things out.....

Dan I'm not positive on this buuuuut.....I think they measure the circumference of the center of the tire tread inflated ( to what PSI I don't know ).....As far as DEPTH of tread goes as a tire wears it's going to get smaller this is the same for all tires. I don't think they give a REVS per mile based on tire with " no tread " ?????.....And I'm MOVING .....ASAP:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:
