No Customer Service Corbin

Update

It has now been over 8 1/2 months since I bought and paid for the Corbin saddlebags for my F3 Spyder. Let me tell you what I have learned along the way.

1. If they don't say up front customer satisfaction guaranteed or your money back then chances are they don't give good customer service. This describes Corbin. They have a policy of no refunds stated on their receipt so you have no leverage. You are at their mercy and they will do things when they want to. Sometimes they deliver fine and sometimes they don't. But if they don't they view it as your problem, not theirs.

2. Your credit card will only allow you to dispute up to 90 days. After that, they can't do anything. Corbin pushed back with promises to get past that 90 days. Now they know there is no way your credit card company can stand by your dispute.

3. The State Attorney General's office will mediate for you but will not do anything legal for you. In fact, they have talked with Corbin before with no success. They tell me I can take them to small claims court, but even if I win, I am on my own to collect. Anything under $5,000 and there is little consumer protection. This is at least true for the state of Florida. I can sue them if I want, but I was told that just before the case goes to court - another 3 months from the time I file - Corbin will magically deliver the bags so no case, except I am out the court and lawyer costs. I was told Corbin has done this before.

I have ordered seats from Corbin before and everything went smooth. But when they don't, I can assure you, Corbin does not care. I have talked with everyone I can in their company and there message is they will have to look into it. Never call back, and when I do, they say oh I thought we got back to you. Let me get an update and I will call you back. It may be they have this in an employee training manual, although i don't know.

So bottom line for me is I am still waiting, I have been direct, I have gotten upset, and I have been persistent, none of which seems to work. The State Attorney General's office has talked with them and got the same promise, we will look into it. The BBB has given them an "F" rating (you can look it up today to see) so they do not respond to the BBB either. I have a written complaint with them as well. Anyone think I will buy Corbin again?

Thanks to everyone who weighed in on this. I've been tempted in the past to go with Corbin but always wound up with Mustang seats. Based on what I've read here I won't even be tempted to go with Corbin in the future.

And, despite having read all of this, there are people here who will order from Corbin and be surprised and upset when they have similar experiences.

back in 2009 the Corbin business was for sale for $11,500,000 - reason = retirement

seven years on and ?no sale? Hmmm perhaps the workers and or owner just don't care any more

google Corbin customer service issues and you'll find it's not just spyder owners having issues...

The son is now running the business...

...into the ground.

Or, at least, that is what my friend told me who is having virtually identical issue with Slingshot bags. I can't imagine the business is worth to anything close to that by now. This feels like a candidate for one of those reality shows where they attempt to buy into or save failing businesses.

Birth

Just think, in 2 more weeks it will have been 9 months since I ordered and paid for my saddlebags. A woman can give birth to a baby in that time which has to be infinitely more complex than a set of fiberglass bags: but maybe not for Corbin. I wish I would have done my homework on the company before buying. But I will keep hounding them. Eventually they will have to produce. I have in writing from them on several occasions that the bags would ship in 2 weeks. That was months ago. Thanks all for sharing your horror stories with Corbin. Perhaps good will come out of this if others avoid Corbin. Maybe I should start a website called don'tbuycorbin.com.

I saw a comment earlier about the U.S. having low or no consumer rights? In the UK or Europe, we have vast regulations on "this and that" - so much so, if I was a business, I would consider not selling directly to the public. :) Joe Public is a fickle lot.

One example - if I order something on the internet, after it arrives, I can change my mind and get a full refund if I don't want it (distance selling regulations) and I can ship it back, at my expense, and get a full refund -no questions asked. If I pay by credit card, and the cost is over USD150 approx, the credit card company is liable to meet the refund if the vendor does not. Interestingly, the law applies to ALL vendors selling something to the UK, so if I ordered something from Corbin (as an example) on the web and they accepted the order and shipped, I am protected by the UK laws. If Corbin refused to refund, then the credit card company would have to make good.

Or, I could order a cup holder, receive it and decide I didn't like it and email the supplier, "reject" it under distance selling within 14 days and send it back - the refund has to be made within 30 days. Clothing catalogs HATE this as, women in particular, order the same dress in three different sizes, select the one that fits perfectly and sends the others back. The catalog store will usually not restock the item as it is too expensive to reshelve it or send back to the original supplier so it probably gets bulk disposed off to discount stores or sold as part of a "container load of catalog returns" and turns up at car boot or open market outlets.

Which is why savvy people never order anything over £100 without using a credit card as this gives you great protection. Under £100, then to all intents and purposes, you are on your own.

Use cash, a debit card or bank transfer and you may have to go via the courts to seek remedy - which is relatively cheap for disputes under £10,000 - a "small claims court" fee would be approx 12.5% of the amount in dispute. If you win, the loser pays the fees as well. No lawyers required, you can do the whole process yourself.

There are lots and lots of other examples, but the one above is the closest to the subject matter of this post.

Its somewhere between a birth and building the great wall of China. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Finally got my money back. Even though I was way past 90 days, my credit card company reversed the charge. Then Corbin sent me pack the part the removed. All of this took 9 months. Bottom line, don't order anything from Corbin. If they have something in store that you want, you will probably be OK.

Awful customer service is correct

Awful customer service. I bought a rear fender from them for my Can-Am spyder. The dealer said the licence plate light was bad. I bought a new light from Corbin but found that it was the wiring was bad. I called and spoke with Jessica to return the licence plate light frame. They stated they will not give me my money back and they have a no return policy. I have found nowhere on there website that states you can not return there products. She was very rude in the phone and will do nothing for me. I said i would pay a restocking fee and they did not care. So i submitted a complaint on the BBB. I guess there is nothing else i can do. Very sad!!!

There usually doesn't need to be a "policy" to return defective merchandise legally, at least as far as I understand it. Dispute it with your credit card company, if you paid that way, and as long as you are prepared to return the defective merchandise you ought to win.

If the part is defective they are obligated to replace or refund. Does not matter the state. Fitness for purpose sold cannot be waived by policy unless the item was sold 'as is'.

If Corbin refuses to make good, dispute the charge with your CC company.
