• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Guess what happened in the vicinity of Shake Creek and Laidlow Creek in the Idaho mountains.

An earthquake!

The 6.5 temblor was near the geographic center of Idaho and was felt from Salt Lake City to the Canadian border. Fortunately that area is all mountainous landscape and there was very little damage and no injuries, even in Stanley, about 19 miles away. That's the 2nd strongest quake to hit Idaho in recorded history. The largest was the Borah 6.9 quake in 1983.

One sad aspect of this is that the seismometer that is probably the closest to the quake and which would have given a great recording, was turned off due to Covid. It's at Boise State University which has been shut down and for whatever reason the profs in the geology department decided to shut the seismometer off since they weren't going to be around. I guess maybe it needs regular attention and didn't fit the Governor's definition of "essential services".
 
My daughter lives in Paris, ID (Bear Lake area in the SE Corner). She says that some of her neighbors felt it but she didn't. She has a 3 1/2 year old boy so she might have thought it was him
 
More than 1 shaker in your general area recently. SLC had 1 a few weeks ago. My boy lives in Logan, UT and said he could feel it. I'm surprised he didn't mention the ID quake but maybe he will in his next phone call. (I live in NC so phone calls and texts are all we get.)
