• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Nitrogen on tires or not, that is the question...

It all comes down to you. Do you have the money to throw away? If so, then donate that money to a charity and fill your tires with air. You will feel much better.

Nitrogen is a scam. Unless you suck out all the 'air' in your tires first or put in another tire valve so the air can escape when you fill it with nitrogen then you are wasting your time and money.

First it probably won't need any topping off, but if it needs 1 lb or 2 topping off with air will not do anything bad to it. The above poster who said it is a scam have you tried it? As far as filling it removing the valve stem and letting the air out will take it pretty close to 0 psi. People are over thinking it 99% nitrogen is virtually as good as 100% until you have tried it and done the checks (as I have) do not discount the fact that you will need far less (if any) topping off. I ran my Corvette for 2yrs and lost 2lbs of pressure. It simply does what is said. It does not seep out for far longer periods and maintains a steadier PSI for longer periods. It will maintain a steady air pressure at different temperatures ( air DOES NOT). Most places that use it should be able to top it off like the place you get it from. It is not rocket science or rare and maintaining proper inflation will save $$$ with better MPG . Most places that fill tires with air DO NOT have 100% effective filter driers on their compressors so what ever humidity is in the air turns to H2O under pressure. I would be more than willing to read something factual that says it is a scam rather than listen to opinions without any basis.

I used to run nitrogen on all my tires...but frankly its not readily available every where, so when you do need a few pounds down the road you're gonna run ALL over town trying to find a shop that has a nitro system. nitrogen filled tires has its particular purpose- just
not for every day daily drivers.:p just my opinion off course!:thumbup:
 
Seems from the comments Nirtrogin would have it's definite advantages. Where would you go to get it? Never looked but i don't think I have ever seen any place that has it?

Yep! that's the air we breathe. Car dealers have really overblown (no pun intended) the Nitrogen issue. Sure, it is an inert gas, it's dry, anyone who has worked with refrigeration systems has used it to purge out the air and moisture. We also know how cheap a large bottle of nitrogen is. That's why I can't help but laugh at the window stickers on new cars that list nitrogen filled tires and a cost of 195.00 or something like that. I just use air in everything.

Actually, I have several family members in the car business and they tell me that it is a scam to get the dealership more money on a car sale since it is almost 100% profit. But, if you think it works for you then fill your tires with it. But, I will save my money for far better farkles. :ohyea::ohyea::ohyea:

My car dealer uses it $30 is the price. There is no downside and possible benefits especially if you do not want to constantly monitor your tire pressure. In TPMS cars it is easier to see the benefit because you can monitor the pressure without touching the tires. Every time you check your pressure you lose a squirt. With a quality gauge that fits well and easily it is minimal but still a loss. TPMS should be on the Spyders especially since the front is so pressure sensitive.

I wonder if some who say nitrogen is snake oil ever used it? Secondly how many spend $1000's on farkles that do nothing and are not willing to spend between $20-$30 to save from checking the tire pressure every time they ride. Thirdly If you use air and set the rear tire to 28psi after it gets hot it will be 32-35psi. Wonder if that has anything to do with the center of the Kenda's wearing out. If you fill with 28psi nitrogen and the tire gets hot it will be ~30psi. If you let it sit and ambient temps go from summer to winter the 28psi will drop with air but not with Nitrogen. Same goes in the spring. I used to check my pressure twice a year with nitrogen,,,just sayin' :thumbup:
One thing I can tell you is that my rear Kendra tire that wore out in 6K miles was run at 28psi. I also carry a digital tire gauge and have measured it right off of the interstate and never saw it raise more than 1-2 lbs, even on the hottest day and/or the fastest ride. We always ride 2 up and are not small people, so I doubt if anyone would have pressure increase above what we saw. Those tires were a bad compound in my opinion and that was the reason for the premature wear. Your other point is valid.

My estimated increase may have been off probably due to less load weight vs. automobile. Regardless the change will be less with Nitrogen.:thumbup:

Hello again to all, Greetings from Tequila country...quick one, is it ok and/or recomendable to put Nitrogen on the tires instead of regular air?...I am planning to put Ride-on on the tires and wondering if it would be a benefit or detriment. They supposedly run cooler and bla bla but just in case better ask...Thanks to all!!!:ohyea:

this is the first time I have heard of Ride-on (must be the sheltered life I have had!). Sounds like a great product, thus naturally I now have the following questions:
1. Where to get this product
2. How long does it take to have inserted into the tires
3. How much does it cost per tire

Any assistance with answers to these questions is greatly appreciated.
