News Flash! EBC Brake Pads now including the Spring Clips!!

The other day a customer called and mentioned that he'd purchased a set of EBC brake pads from me. And, he said, they came with the spring clips which attach the pads to the caliper piston. I assured him that he was mistaken. That these pads do not come with the spring clips. But he insisted that they did.

Well, I was WRONG! I know. it was hard for me to accept as well...

I did not notice it. But EBC is now including the attachment spring clips with these pad sets. This should eliminate the dreaded (I lost/broke a spring clip!!! Now What?) phone calls! Awesome!

Great news! Now I can stop hording old spring clips from BRP pad replacements. (Some of my customers actually want the Brembo pads so we stock both).

On the 2013 and newer bikes with the Brembo brakes, either has plenty of capacity to get into ABS territory. The fully sintered have more initial bite so feel more confident but once warmed up either has all the capacity you could ask for and its hard to get either to fade. They both seem to last about the same and the EBC fully sintered is less than half the cost of the Brembo pads.

Just my take.

On my personal bike, I have ready access to very slightly used Brembo pads so free is good. If I were paying for them, EBC all day long.

Yeah, I haven't ever seen clips on the pads we use. I have new ones in my spare parts cabinet right now that don't have clips! I did notice the part number Ron has shown is not for the F3/S...

These spring clips only come with the 2008-2012 BRP caliper type pad sets. The 2013+ Brembo sets do not use this kind of retention clip.

I just had EBC Sintered installed on all wheels, after having scored the discs a bit. Right out of the gate, these pads seemed to grab better than the OEM, without even waiting for them to "bed in." :yes:

Great news....now here's a question many will ask....can you get the clips from EBC for those that only need the clips. I for one have brake pads I got from you that do not have the clips but have not needed to install them yet....:dontknow:

I get no credit. It was EBC that came through for the 2008-2012 riders. Funny thing is I've spoken to EBC before about this and they were not very interested. I wonder what changed their mind!

Bad reviews and returns. The pads really were incomplete without the clips which were never intended for reuse. Very glad they decided to upgrade the part to include them.

The Semi's will wear faster than the H's as they are a softer compound.... You may have more initial bite and less pedal effort under light braking, but not worth the trade off of less life and less braking power under heavier use or higher pressure application (panic stop).... I use the H's all day every day and have on every bike I've owned! And even raced with.... ;-)

2014 RTL

EBC uses a copper alloy as their friction/heat transfer material. (Some use Steel. These are called Semi-Metallic). Some use Kevlar or other, similar material. These are called Organic. Kevlar sounds really cool! But it's just average for an organic friction pad.

The advantage for Organic is low cost, low dust that will not rust or discolor. And usually low noise issues. Disadvantages are shorter life, faster wear (no savings if you eat through them and go metal to metal on the rotors). They tend to fade more quickly and you don't get as much stopping power.

The advantage of Metallic (Steel) is lower cost than Sintered (Steel is cheaper than Copper or other Alloy's). They stop very well (as well or better than Sintered), and last as long or longer than Sintered. Disadvantages are that they can really put up a screeching racket. The dust will rust quickly and is difficult to remove and they really eat into the rotors.

Semi simply means less friction material. Fully means more. The friction material (in all of these pad variations) is imbedded in a resin bonding compound (this is what you 'Cure' during the 'Bedding In' process) so even the Fully Sintered is not 100% friction material. Just significantly more friction material for better stopping and better heat transfer. The resin compound does very little of either.

Advantages are that Fully Sintered pretty much combine all the advantages of Semi-Metallic and Organic pads. Disadvantage is a higher cost. Which is offset, at least somewhat, by longevity over Organic.

The EBC rotors are a definite improvement over the OEM. They are much more warp resistant, have a better 'Bite' for stopping and better resistance to wear. If rotor wear is a concern, EBC is the way to go.
