Newbie with questions on ordering a 2022 model

Hey all,

in doing some research over the past couple days, I have answered one of my own questions...

How long does it take to get your Ryker built?

I'm in the car biz, so I am always curious about manufacturing plants/methods/etc. Since we're diving into this world of Can-Am and Rykers, I thought it might be cool to see where they are built, and if they do factory tours or anything of the sort. That lead me to here;

https://museebombardier.com/en/activites/museum-brp-plant-package/

Turns out there is a Bombardier museum up there in Valcourt, Quebec, and during the weekdays (normally), you can take a tour of the factory that makes the Spyders/Rykers and Ski-doo snowmobiles. Right there on the website is this gem of info;

"Take the guided tour and learn more about the manufacture and assembly of Ski Doo® snowmobiles (summer and fall) or Can-Am® Spyder® vehicles (winter and spring) and the tradespeople who work at the plant."

So, looks like if I order a 2022 model, they won't start producing until this winter. Too bad. Won't get to experience a nice fall riding season until next year...

This morning I went on Can-Am's webstie and wound up on a sidebar chat. Asked the agent about when 2022 models were shipping and got this response;

"2022 models will ship early spring next year"

So, it's official then. Gonna be waiting a few months.... :(

Factory cruise control on a Ryker? First I've heard. Not confusing it with a Spider? Only one I've heard of is a mechanical type like the Atlas or Vista ...

Yup, the 2022 Rykers are going to have factory installed cruise control. I think that's pretty cool.

I believe it will be stock on the Sport and Rally but an add-on for the 600/900 Ace. I called and spoke to BRP support and they could not commit to saying it could be added to models before 2022 since there is a "port" on the ECM to accommodate the cable for the button and that it is not a user-installable option as the ECM must be re-programmed to accept it. I could get no clarification if the $149 cost includes the ECM/ECU programming from the dealer. Also, no definite confirmation that the same ECM was used on models before 2022.

Cruise is available on the '22 900s only - not the 600 (try configuring a '22 600 with cruise - the option is not available).

Can anyone explain what a Commodity Surcharge is ????????????????

That's "dealerspeak" for "Something we can charge because these suckers are hard to get right now."

It appears to NOT be a dealer charge. It is being tacked onto all products from BRP Can Am, not just Spyders. It varies by product but what it's based on is unknown. Based on my Google search it appears to be exclusive to BRP, unless it's just another name for some Canadian tax that all companies pay.

When laid off from the steel making business back in the early 80' I triad selling cars for a while, I sucked at it. At one dealership I worked at they had a surcharge they added to every car new or used called "ADP"------ additional dealer profit.

Spyders are built in Canada, but I believe Rykers are built in Mexico. There was a fire at the Mexico factory's storage yard this summer and many new Rykers were destroyed. This might have them backed up a bit.

:hun: According to the info I read & got from BRP reps & publications, it was the ATV production line & only ATV's that were destroyed... they made a big deal of telling us here in Oz that the Ryker production line wasn't anywhere near the fire, NO Rykers were involved, & Ryker production/deliveries wouldn't be impacted in any way?!? :dontknow:

Edit: see the details here:

That info too says only Side by Side ATV's were effected. :thumbup:

Anyone have any confirmation on that?

Easiest way to tell I guess would be the VIN. On cars, if the first digit is a "2", it was made in Canada. If the first digit is a "3", it's made in Mexico.
Anyone able to quick check their Ryker VIN?

Thanks,
Eric

All street-use motor vehicles sold in the U.S. are required to be labelled with their respective country of origin (1). The label for the Ryker is found on a tubular member under the driver's seat. "Assembled in Mexico".

(1): "Final Assembly Place", 49 U.S. Code § 30115.

Thanks for the feedback. Based in the info from BRP's website;

https://www.brp.com/en/about-us/our-locations/manufacturing-facilities.html

It looks like there are a couple of plants down there;

"OUR MEXICAN FACILITIES

Our Mexican footprint has grown over the years. We now have two plants in Juárez where we manufacture our Can-Am off-road vehicles. In Querétaro, we assemble our Sea-Doo watercraft and the Rotax engines for our Can-Am off-road vehicles. .

2001: Juárez 1
2013: Querétaro
2016: Juárez 2"

Based on the timing of the intro for 2019MY, my guess would be the Rykers are assembled at Juárez 2.
Anyone know for sure?

Thanks,
EV

Well, the decision has been made. We are ordering a 2022 Ryker Sport!

I'm starting to talk to local dealers to get pricing. So far, one quoted me $14.2k out the door, on a MSRP of $11.6k! :shocked:

If you take away the 6% sales tax, that's a markup of $1800. Ewwwww.

Anyone know if the guys at iMotorsports still waive the freight and setup fees?

Thanks,
EV

In this day and age..................What is it about people not just picking up the phone, or cell phone and making a simple call??????????????

Oh, I've been making calls.

It's just that I'd like to know the background story/particulars if I'm going to have push the issue, that's all.
As my brother the sales guy says, "You don't get what you deserve....you get what you negotiate."

Forewarned is forearmed after all....

I just pre-ordered a 2022 also. After about a week of searching all the local dealers, the best deal I could find was $ 600 over MSRP and that includes tags, title, freight, assembly, etc. In addition they gave me 15% off all accessories purchased. The next closest dealer in price wanted $ 1200 over and third place was almost $ 1700 over. All these dealers are within 20 minutes of each other. So it definitely pays to call around. Good luck on your search.

Thanks for the feedback rjarcy! That 15% off accessories seems like a good deal (at least for these days).

What model did you wind up getting?
