• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Newbie TOTALLY confused!

I give a big second to Thump's comment about reading the operator's guide. Do yourself a big favor and give it a cover to cover workout. Also take the time to read all the labels BRP puts on the machine. The lawyers make them affix some but there is useful info on most of them.

Hi vdoman,

Re: I can't wrap my head around how the semi-automatic works.

I 'think' I understand the system. The best analogy ( IMO ) is how new cars use paddle shifters.

Does that help any?

Jerry Baumchen

And like Jerry told me...fast tap the paddle. It shifts better with just a fast tap/slap... no pressure or no hold down. Thanks Jerry !

Thank you everyone!!

I now fully understand and feeling extra good that so many people took the time to answer. ON my new bike or on spyderlovers, it's going to be a lot of fun!!

I too am new to the Spyder world, 3 months. The best thing I could have done was to find out from the dealer where to take a 2 day course on how to ride this amazing machine. In the course I was taught about emergency braking, avoidance, lots of do's and don'ts. Never ridden one in my life and was nervous about it but by the end of the day I was a lot more confident riding. Google it if you want to. Can Am Spyder Training.

+1 on this. I took a 2 day course in early July. Some of the best $$$ I have ever spent.

Welcome

Just another newbie saying welcome. 2100 miles in after about 5 or 6 weeks, and having a blast. I ride it most every day. Only driven MY car once since I bought the Spyder, though my wife and I have taken hers a few times when she doesn't want "helmet hair"! I can now take corners at speed, especially around town, and find freeway riding more comfortable than I did at first. GO for it.

All the prior answers pretty much cover your question. One main difference between the SE and the Manual, there is no hand clutch to pull to let the bike coast while you shift down when approaching a stop. I road 2 wheelers all my life before this Spyder which has the SE6 transmission. Wouldn't go back to the manual for anything.
Don't be afraid to ask questions, especially on here. Everyone I have been involved with on here has always been more than willing to help if they can or point you in the right direction to get you help.
Welcome and happy riding.
