Newbie - Is there a way to just go to N without the parking brake?

I just picked up a 2014 RSS Monday (in the rain!) at a tremendous $avings, and my first real ride was today.

When I turn off the ignition key to dismount, the transmission (SE5) is still in first gear. I hear the beep to remind me to apply parking brake. Is there a way to just go to N, assuming flat surface, and not apply the parking brake?

It goes into neutral automatically upon restart.
Don't know anyway around that annoying beep.
All gear shifts require the brake as far as I know.
I'm new also with a 2014 RS SE5
I'm only an hour from NE Ohio. Welcome

Park

If you pull back on the downshifter it will go into neutral but you still have to apply the parking brake...Have fun on your new ryde....

.....How can using the parking brake wear it out .........................................YES < if you forget to re-lease it , that will wear it out .........been there done that :roflblack:.....I began by leaving a piece of white tape on the speedo ...............PARKING BRAKE .....Until I got into the habit ..................Mike

RE: Parking brake. You should not have to engage it beyond one or two clicks. Always do the "roll" test to make sure the brake is engaged. Zapping the brake pedal all the way down will strip the setting out pretty quick.

Congratulations and Welcome.

Use the parking brake or get a collapsible wheel chock. The SE has a tendency to roll "in gear" or neutral.

Don't worry, the beep will be annoying enough after a little while that you'll rarely forget to engage or disengage the brake.

Use the parking brake. You won't wear it out and it's a good habit to get into. It's worth it's weight in gold and you'll discover that the 1st time your Spyder rolls away because you didn't set it.

It's a SC400 Youngstown is quite a haul but doable next year. I'm 40 miles east of Erie.

Can the beeper be muffled?

I wouldn't want to silence it but would like to muffle the annoying sound. Is it located somewhere easily reached?

We had somebody in here, fill one up with silicon... I think!
That muffled it nicely.

Use the parking brake... The bike will still be there, when you get back to it. :thumbup:

Leaving it in 1st gear won't prevent it from rolling away! :yikes: The engagement needs to be spinning, for the clutch plates to be together...

Welcome to the site and congrats on the new ride. Use your parking brake as needed, the parking brake is your rear brakes and using will not wear it out unless you forget to release but there is a very annoying beep if you do have it on and attempt to take off or back up.

The cable will need to be adjusted from time to time.

I was referring to the foot activated parking brake on the RS models. I went back to the original specs on 2015 RS and RSS, both state that the manual parking brake is still alive and well.

Yes, the RS models have a left-foot-activated parking brake like a car might. It's a mechanical brake that works fine. I usually go about 3 clicks myself. To un-engage, push down on it until it releases with the left foot.

The brake will not wear-out when parked, so have no fear. Accidentally trying to take-off with the brake engaged has the dash fuss quite a bit, but just like a car you won't go far.
