There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Greetings, Old Dog here. This is my first posting here. I do not have a Spyder just yet. I test rode a white RSS SE5 last week at Acker's in Grove City, Ohio. I really liked it. I'm itching to buy one. My last ride was a Honda Shadow Sabre 1100 VT. I sold it last year. I was previously an active member of the Sabre Group, so I'm quite familiar with forum discussions.
Ironically I just missed Spyders in the Smokies. I was in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg just last week. They had a big car show there. I've ridden all through the Smokies on my Sabre several times and have ridden the Dragon a number of times. My initial leanings are toward the RTS. It may be next year before I can "pull the trigger". I'll have to work on my profile.

Enjoy the ride:2thumbs:

Old Dog,
Like you, I test rode an RT just a couple months ago and I'm truely interested in one as soon as possible, but in reality a year. I currently ride a Honda VTX 1300 and I love it (trouble free). That's why I'm here, to learn the ups and downs of Spyderdom. I think I just missed you on the chat. I haven't found anyone any time I go there yet. I would be interested to know how your feelings go as we both learn about the Spyder. One of my worst fears so far is just the amount of electronics. My VTX is VERY simple and trustworthy and I like that, so you can imagine that I want a trustworthy bike (that I don't have to worry about tipping over...LOL). Hope to hear from you and please keep in touch. Thanks Large.

I'm lookin', I'm lookin. I'll have to learn how to navigate this forum. LOL.
I had absolutely no problems with my Sabre. I bought it new in 2002 and sold it last year. It was a very comfortable ride, but honestly quite boring.
I'm itching to get back in the saddle and the Spyder, I think, fits the bill. My leanings are toward the RTS SE5. However $26000 is not chump change.
Also I have been reading about quality issues that many of the members have brought up. This being a relatively new product, I hope BRP seriously addresses each problem. I'm gaining useful insight, and having a ball reading these posts.

Welcome to Spyderlovers Farmerjim & OldDog. As Fastfraser said, a lot of good info here. The Spyder is not without it's problems as you will find out after a bit of time on this forum. Some people have had major issues, others minor issues and many others none at all.
There are members here that have a legitimate beef, others that like to complain just to hear themselves talk.
There are those that will disagree with me but I believe BRP is doing a good job getting the problems solved with these machines.
I have had a couple of problems but nothing that has ruined my enthusiasm for the Spyder.

Hey guys, I am in the same boat waiting for a new 11 model. I have ordered mine and am just waiting. The 26000 isn't chump change, but I looked at a new Victory Vision, starting at 23999, or a new BMW LT starting at 21700 both are bare bones for those models, and of course the latest Goldwing at 22899. If you look at the intro model for the Spyder it is only 21399 which is in line with the other intro or as I call them bare bones models. I agree, it is a big jump up from a Shadow or a VTX. Since 2000 I have owned 3 GW 1800's and a Victory Vision, so the sticker is not as much as a shock to me. The concern about being left along the road is more of a concern but hopefully I will have the same good luck as I did with the two wheelers.

I have noticed that from reading almost everything here, that aside from real problems like the clutch recall, dps recall, some of the oil in gearbox, and of course the fires, a lot of the problems were cause by doing mods where a wire grounded and such.

With my Wings, I never really had problems, but was involved in the first two models, 01 and 04. in the frame recall issue. There is also a list of service bulletins on the Wing just like on the Spyder. I hate to say it but the Vision gave me the least problems. On one of our last trips we were talking about that and I mentioned that I had been lucky with the Vision, and a friend of mine said, it wasn't luck, but good old American engineering. Might be something to that. Any way... I hope this helps put the price tag into perspective...

Edit... I only mentioned RT prices and not RS prices since Olddog mentioned the RTS.... Sorry...

Thanks everyone. Sounds like a large spectrum of folk here. Love it. Here's another STUPID question. Why do I NEVER see anyone on the chat line?? Just a curiousity. Thanks again everyone and have patience as build my confidence to becoming one of you. By the way, I saw somewhere in the postings where someone saw my handle (farmerjim) and said something about fertilizer....LOL...if you only knew.

Hey Folks, this may be a (judged too quickly) assumption, but reading through these threads, seems that some of those with problems have dealerships that aren't quite up to par. Is that a correct assumption? (yes/no) I know that when the time comes to pull the $ trigger, I will look for the best known dealership even if it's further away. Any thoughts?

Just like with anything else, there are some very good dealerships out there and some pretty bad ones as well. If you ask around you will find who you can trust. Also, there is a thread on here for recommended service centers that you can do a search for.

I see you are from MO, and you happen to have one of the very good dealers in your state. That is Cow Town in Cuba MO. There is also a pretty large group of Spyder Lovers in MO, and I am sure they will be more than happy to help you out.

Agree... go to Cowtown... I have never ridden (in/on) anything with less than four wheels... purchased the RT... (tried the trike first and then went to Cowtown and test rode the spyder)... I am practicing and having a very good time... got my 2010 in August... the key seems to be... HAVE A GOOD DEALER... one that does not even scorn or snicker when you simply can not start the spyder... (you would not be interested in the why of that and I am not sharing that info today... :) )... be encouraged... the spyder is lots of fun...

FarmerJim, It is definitely a wise choice to buy from the best dealer that you can find... The bike is gonna be the same no matter where you get it, so pick the dealer! :2thumbs:
