Newbie here with USB/Aux Cables Questions

So I've had my Spyder (2016 F3-T) since Tuesday evening and first time on three wheels (with extremely limited experience on two wheels!) and we (hubby followed on his bike along with another friend and wife on theirs) drove about 50 miles total out the countryside where we live and I led :) So happy!!

So for the question(s).... the cables in the glove box, I'm assuming the USB can be used to charge cell phone and/or play music? Im looking to find an older iPod Touch to which I can download my Amazon Prime app and music and use it for tunes. So if the iPod is plugged into the USB will it both play to the stereo and charge at the same time? And what do you use the Aux cable for - just GPS?

Welcome.

I have a 2016 RT-S so I hope it is the same as the F3.

I plug in an iPod to the USB port and it plays through the onboard speakers and also charges the iPod. I also have the Sena SM10 so I can sync my headset to the Spyder to hear music in the helmet.
The advantage to the USB and iPod is that you can control the iPod through the handbar controls, at least you can with the RT-S. The AUX on the RT-S is straight output: GPS, MP3, etc. My cords are in the trunk so GPS is out for me unless I stretch the wire to the bars.

Hope that helps and is correct for you.
Dave

I have the RT also. I'm not sure the F3 is the same. Looking forward to someone responding that knows for sure.

Amazon Music

This is a little off topic, but I just wanted to let you know that you may want to find a different music service, because Amazon has announced it is ending Amazon Music. I have a 2017 F3 Limited, and I have the same glove box setup that you do. I picked up a Ram mount for my phone and Bluetooth adapter that plugs into the auxiliary cord in the glove box. This allows me to Bluetooth my phone through my speakers.

I believe that is only the music storage service which is being discontinued for purchased and/or uploaded music stored through Amazon. My set up would play Amazon Prime music - which is free through my Prime membership. Not all songs but thousands and thousands are available, and I like older music which is very available.

Thanks, good to know. I personally use Google Play music that is going to be ending this year to make way for YouTube Remix.

USB

I have a 16 F3T and found out last weekend it will play mp3s and spotify using a sync cable. I have Spotify and thought there was something
Wrong with the radio and found there was an update available I hadn't downloaded. After I did that it was fine again.
I also found that Can-Am and android are not compatable, ( tried it with my tablet when I got home )but you can use the aux cable and set the
radio to aux. You just will not be able to see the song title in the dash or advance to the next song via the handle bar cotrol buttons.

Maybe the 18 or 19s will be more up to date.

2016 F3T

Hi,

On My F3T, I use my iPhone connected to the USB cable all the time. It charges and play music without any problem.

I'm using Spotify either on connected or offline mode.

The good thing of using your iPhone (or probably an iPod touch also), is that you can skip to next or previous song using the button on your handlebar and when switching to another source it pause automatically. When you go back to that source, it stars playing again. Using only the aux earphone type of input won't let you do that.

Guys, you are making this far more complicated than need be.

Just put several thousand tracks on an inexpensive thumb drive and plug it in to the usb in the glove box. The system will index and play them, display track information on the screen and allow control from the 4 way on your left control cluster.

No need for an ipod.

The usb port will not supply enough power for most smart phones. Its not a charging port.

This is also what I have done. Currently 1869 songs on a USB (16gig, I think) and still room for more music. They play alphabetically but song title, and with that much music, I don't get repeats.....

USB Port can charge iPhone

On My F3T, the USB port is charging my iPhone SE without any problem. I use it all the time forSpotify music and GPS.

I use a fifth gen NANO which I had on my gl1800. Keeps charged and plays dandy with controls on my F3T. I use the nano because I sort my playlists by date so my music gets round about with the first song in the playlist being one I have not heard in a long time. I wrote a windows script that sets the last play date to whatever I want (random or a single date with a random time stamp or setting any selected to a random time in a date range & more). Smart playlist shown keeps music played within the last 60 days from showing up in that list. If I want songs forced in there I run my script to set dates to more than 60 days on my favorites so they will be peppered within the not in last 60 days playlist. This works well and is much better at rotating music than Apple because Apple's random play sucks big time. Check the playlist parameters. Sort the resulting list by date. You will hear the songs starting with the song not played since the longest time ago.

Shout out the playlist as 1st song in it...

>NEW SONGS<

Just a note: if I don't start the bike quickly after pushing the ECO button, sometimes the draw on the bike battery at the starter will set the NANO to lose its mind and start playing all songs in alphabetical order. Dunno if that's the NANO's fault or the Spyder's.
