• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hello All!
I recently purchased a used 08 GS with a manual Tranny...
So far I love it...few issues to work out, but it's to be expected with a used bike. It's at the dealer now for the DPS replacement. They said the two exhaust gaskets on th top of the transverse Y are wore out, two more are on order.... The Spyder came with a TBR exhaust, and has the shimmy and shakes at light throttle inputs (too lean)... O2 modifier on order for that. My questions are...since I have no warrantee, is it a good idea to delete the evap canister when i replace the exhaust gaskets? Also, what other must do mods are there?
Thanks,
Robb

:welcome: and enjoy your new ride. There are many knowledgeable folk on this site and I am sure they will answer all of your questions.

Next time your Y gaskets need to be replaced, you should go with a set of the Honda gaskets as they are better quality than the ones BRP is using. You can do a search on here to find more information, including the part number.

Removing the cannister, and other mods, is really a personal choice based on what you want to do with your Spyder. Do you want it to be a hot rod, a show piece, or a bit of both?

Well, when I picked up the spyder from the dealership, they informed me of a exhaust gasket leak (Top of transverse Y pipe). So that needs replaced! lol
Today I tore the spyder down and removed the evap cannister I routed the line out the back following the e-brake line stopping a few inches short of the caliper; is that okay or still too close to the exhaust/ brakes? I also prepped it for the o2 modifier and new gaskets whenever they get here!

Any words of wisdom for replacing the gaskets? it seems pretty straight forward, just wondered if there are any tricks to make it easier?

thanks for the link to the exhaust gasket thread!
I have a growing paranoya about where I ran the gas tank vent line.....along the e-brake cable on the right side stopping a few inches shy of the brake assembly.
is this too close to the brakes/ exhaust? It's only vapor, unless you over fill the tank right? I guess I have concerns of gas spraying all over my exhaust and brakes....lol should I move the line or is it fine there?

The BRP Vent Hose extension update lengthened the tube and placed it at the front of the Spyder, on the right hand side near the frame. Here is a post with a couple of pictures of the finished product: http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showpost.php?p=252499&postcount=32

Also, for more information you can check out this thread: http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22391

It is supposed to be only vapor unless you overfill the tank; however, fuel vapors are usually more flammable than liquid fuel. Just something else to think about.

Update

So this weekend I got some serious wrenching time in on the spyder!
Fixed the exhaust gasket leak (What a difference in sound!), the right side gasket was straight up missing! lol I also got the o2 modifier, and their air filter on (ripped out the straw at the beginning of the air-box too). As for my results....98% better! not 100% but close. The bucking is mostly gone, but it still seems to have a dead spot in first gear, hard to explain but i'll be easing off the clutch and rolling on the throttle...when I hit the spot i have to get on the throttle a lot harder or it'll stall. Maybe I still need a fuel controller????

I'm also noticing a clutching (SM5) issue....it will click into the next gear (I can hear and feel it) but when i let the clutch back out it will pop back into the previous gear. At first i thought it was just me, but it's starting to happen way too often. Where do I start with this issue?

So....to sum up my questions:
Do I still need a fuel controller, or is there another issue?
Whats up with my manual transmission?

Sounds more like a transmission issue than a clutch issue. Bad gear selector, gear sector disc, or worn gears is most likely. Bad tranny bearings can also cause this behavior in some engines, but I don't know if the Rotax is one. Time to visit the dealer.

I'd love too, but it's an 08 and i bought it used.....so, it'll all be outta my pocket :(

It'd be cool to get some places to stat troubleshooting....
