Hi - first just wanted to say hello. I just got an F3-S Triple Black (SE6) and have been scouring this forum for lots of useful information.
I had a question and I wanted to ask whether anyone had done this or foresees any problems....I want to change the front wheels to a slightly wider and larger wheel.
Now so far I have read that:
- The stability control reads wheel speed and that is integral to its function so you can't increase the overall diameter above stock or it goes into Limp Mode.
- The stock tire is 165 x 65 x 15, which happens to have the same diameter as the 205 x 40 x 17, so I assume I can move to a 17" wheel on those new tires.
- The extra weight of the wheel and tire will massively influence the behaviour on the road, so match the weight as close as possible.
- Get the wheels cut to the correct PCD of a Spyder so you don't use spacers/adaptors that will push the weight out further and make the forces even worse.
Now assuming that is all as read, my question is given how I am increasing tire width by 40mm, should I get the offset so that I have an extra 20mm inside the hub and 20 mm outside the hub to balance it out? I am thinking that would have least likely impact on upsetting the traction control and minimize the extra forces on the suspension? Does that make sense? If anyone has a view on the best way forward I would really appreciate it.
Again, nice to meet you all and thanks in advance for any advice. Chris
