Hello,

I just joined the forum because I'm looking at getting a Spyder, but have some questions and concerns. Let me explain. I am a T4 - T6 paraplegic. I was injured 2 years ago. I was forced off the road on my Hayabusa 1300RR by a car and broke my back. I love riding and seeing the Spyder has given me hope to ride again. My questions are does anyone know of a person with my type of disability that owns a Spyder? Does the Spyder have a breaking system like a motorcycle, The front brake on the right hand and the back brake on the right foot, if so could it be changed to a handcontrol thing for someone without use of their legs. I'll wait to see if I get a reply to these questions prior to asking any more. Thanks ahead of time.

I'm very sorry to hear of your accident.

BRP has no plans of adding a hand brake to the Spyder. I have added one to mine and so has a few other folks here. It can be done it just takes a little work. I know if I was in your situation I would make it work. :doorag:

Good to hear your pursuing your return to the road!!!
Theres a guy on another forum that is a paraplegic (not sure the extent) and has made quite a few mods. He opted for a complete move of the hydraulic system for the linked brakes to the right handgrip, but was having some issues with it Others here on this board have installed a cable that actuates the existing foot cylinder. This is the route I will probably take (right foot limitations for me) as it doesnt break into what seems to be a very sensitive hydraulic system. He also installed a klicktronics shifter, but if you waited for the SE5, this would be unnecessary.
He hasnt posted updates in awhile, so im not sure where hes at.

As a retired teacher for the disabled, I admire your "want to, can do attitude!" I suggest you find a dealer in your area and schedule an appointment to really look over this bike. Find a demo ride event for the SE5 automatic. I own the (shifting) Spyder and I have also done 2 demo rides on the automatic. Look it all over, as a hand brake can be installed. You won't need your legs to shift with the automatic, and it works great. The bike is stable at 3 wheels and You can modify ! I bet you have really strong arms thus you will be able to get on and off independently and you will be able to feel the wind again. Best to you.
