• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Hi everybody,
I am about to buy my first spyder tomorrow?;) I have a question, how many miles on a spyder is to many miles? I am getting a 2012 white limited

There is NO 'too many miles' on a Spyder!!

I don't think I've found anyone on any Spyder Forum suggesting that any such thing as too many miles on a Spyder even exists!! :yikes:

Most can't get enough miles on theirs, many are competing to see how many they can get, and if you happen to find a second hand Spyder that hasn't done a heap, snap it up before someone else does!! Here in Aus, anything with less than 5 Zero's after a whole number greater than 1 is considered 'young' or 'barely run in!!'

Congrats on joining the ranks of happy Spyder Lovers, enjoy!!

:welcome: Randy & Sandy! :2thumbs:
So; How many miles are on the bike in question? :D
I've got a good friend who will be cracking the 100,000 mile barrier very soon with his 2008 GS... and the motor has never been touched!
another bike has surpassed 200,000 miles... just on mulitple engine changes along the way! (But this one, has had a VERY gun life!)

:welcome: Without knowing the history of the one you are buying I could not say if it has too many miles on it. As Bob pointed out a well maintained one will run a long long time.

 To your new adventures on the :f_spider:

:congrats: & :welcome:

As for your question about mileage, all I can say is that I can't get enough on mine!

:welcome: & :congrats:

It sounds like you already have made a deal and will be getting the Spyder tomorrow. How many miles does it have on it?

Or are you concerned about putting too many miles on it after you get it? I'd say to refer to Bob D's post.

In either case, it all depends on the maintenance. I know of issues people have had with their Spyders and they've all been discussed here - ad nauseum! But I don't think I've heard of any problems with the engines. Rotax has a good reputation in whatever vehicles they've been used.

I can't wait to see the pics of your Spyder. :nopic:

Congrats!

:congrats: and :welcome:. We had a 2012 RT Limited and it was a great bike! No big issues at all and very dependable - rode it 7,650 trouble free miles. I would ask to see the maintenance records and any major repair it had. Like any mechanical / electrical item, if well maintained, it can last a long time....

We did trade it in on the 2014 RT Limited ONLY because of the engine/transmission change the 2014 had to offer. IF that change would have not happened, we would have kept our 2012 RT Limited !

Best wishes for a successful deal and a good ryde! Enjoy!:yes::yes:

Welcome..!! Welcome..!!

to both the roadster world and the best answer place around...you can't have too many miles on a spyder...:roflblack: But it is nicer if you put them on..:ohyea:do have the vin# checked at any dealer to make sure things are up to date.....

:congrats: on the new 2012 you will get tomorrow and :welcome:!!!! They are so much fun! We love our Spyder! We've never regretted it since the day we bought it!!!! LOVE IT!!!!

With Precisyon Trac.... Ryde Straight and True ......

:welcome: and congrats on the new Spyder. Does it have the extended BEST warranty? If it does not and is still under factory warranty, I would suggest that you might want to purchase one. That would give you a little more peace of mind.

Where in Idaho are you???????

I will be in Twin Falls on Tuesday maybe if you call me I can give you some pointers if you like

the eBay sales that I've watched it seems that they take a hit on value in the 15,000 mile range. There's some maintenance needed at about 8,000-10,000 miles like a rear tire and rear brakes but nothing major.

:welcome: Most of the answers to your question have been covered above. A 2012 LTD is top of the top of the line. If it has been well maintained, you should be very happy :spyder2: owners. I put 36,500 miles on my 2010 before trading off. No major mechanical issues and I would not have been afraid to keep it and run it over 100K. But, they came out with the new 2014 and that was that.

My new spyder

Thank you everyone for your advice and knowledge. We pick it up today and had a blast riding it home, about sixty miles or so. I think we made a good decision and it has 19000 miles on it. Is it just broke in good?:D
