• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

New Tires?

To All,
I have a 14 RTS that we put 5900 miles on in 6 months of riding. Outstanding vehicle. We will be traveling to Alaska this summer and I want to change the tires now rather then worry about rapid tire wear during our 9,000 mile trip. Is there a consensus on tire choice. We live in Southern California and ride year round. Use is solo for commuting and two up for traveling.
Also looking for the local Spyder club for Orange County/San Diego area.
So far only comments regarding the RTS is poor fuel mileage (30 to 35 MPG), difficult frunk release, that was fixed by Mission Motorsports in Irvine, and luggage latches that don't always catch.
Please pass along any information for newbies to the Spyder world.
Thanks,
Santa Ken

I have had 4 Spyders now and the mileage on all of them got better with riding. my 14 RTL has 31000 miles and consistently gets 40 mpg although I only got 30 to 35 until 12000 miles. I have had a Kumho Ecsta AST on the rear tire for 23000 miles now and Federal Evo s on the front for 24000 (my front tires were defective)

Welcome Santa. When is your trip to AK? We have a group of Spyders leaving from WA on June 29th. Maybe our paths will cross. I have 43,000 miles on my 14 and I currently have an Arachnid on the rear, Federal Evo's on the front. The Evo's are about done with approx. 28,000 miles on them. The wear on the Arachnid is comparable to the Kenda. I had a Kumho Ecsta on for 25,000 miles and just changed it out to the Arachnid. I found that with the Kumho and the Federal Evo's I had issues with hydroplaning. I am undecided at this point as to what I will put on before AK but I am leaning to Kenda's on the front and either a Kenda or another Arachnid on the rear. Or maybe Yokohamas all around. Decisions, decisions....

Check out Spyder Ryders of America San Diego chapter http://www.sra-sandiego.com/, they also have a Facebook page. They are a great bunch of folks and are pretty active. They have a monthly 200 Mile to Lunch Ride.

In preparation for our Alaska trip I just put new tires on all three.
Fronts I went with 155/60R-15 Kumho Solus KH16
Rear is a General Altimax RT43 That is T speed rated in size 215/60R-15.

I considered the Yokohama S drive, but the General looked like to could handle wet graval roads better which I expect to encounter along the trip.
A plus with this size is that my speedometer is now within 1 mph of my GPS. Only have about 200 miles on them (installed them last night),but they handle great.

I also had the Altimax on my RSS and loved it.......and it did correct the speedo error................Mike
