• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I am a woman who has rode a 2011 Harley Street Glide. I am not comfortable on 2 wheels. I ride on the back of my husbands bike. I looked into a trike. But cost and upper body strength. So I am thinking about a Spyder RT Limited in white. Help suggestions???

A test drive of the model you want is recommended to determine what is best for you. The :spyder2: is different from the other trikes. With power assisted steering they take less physical force to pilot. You gain stability on turns with the two wheels up front and also gain safety features like ABS brakes, and the computerized safety system (nanny). The line offers three levels. RS which is like a crotch rocket--both in performance and sitting position. The ST which is half way between the RS and the RT--which is full blown touring. If you go with the 2014 RT--you get a new configuration with the three cylinder 1330cc engine, and six gears instead of five. There is a learning curve so be careful not to overcontrol on the test ride. This will give you the impression that the :ani29: is skittish--which it is not. The :spyder2: is just sensitive to any input. Your mention of the RT limited is the best of the best IMO.

Can't go wrong with a RT LTD.
You can't beat the comfort level.
IMO the Spyder is the safest machine without a lid!

You can save bucks with a 2013 RT LTD--but some have had issues. With the upgraded RT for 2014, I would recommend that instead of any 2013. If you can still find any 2011 or 2012 RT's they are a very good buy and mostly without issues. If you do a search, you will find a lot of information about issues on the 2013's.

The Spyder seems to be just the thing for you. Coming off of a Street Glide you may be more comfortable on a 2014 RT as the power band on the machine is more akin to a Harley than prior year Spyders. The 2014's three Cylinder engine is more refined for touring. Some who moved from Harleys or GoldWings can't get used to running in the 5-6,000 rpm rev range and that is where the earlier Spyder Twins were most comfortable.

My wife loves her 2012 RT though and says she likes to hear it rev up into the power range.

2013's have the 2014 chassis with the 2010-12 Twin Cylinder engine and there were some problems with excessive heat that BRP sort-of addressed. We never experienced this first hand but if you search the posts on 2013's and overheating you will find lots of information.

What ever you decide you will quickly fall in love with a Spyder RT.
 
If you can swing it, the 2014 Rt may be a bit better suited for a former Harley rider. More low end torque and lower rpm operation means less to "unlearn".
 
If your comfortable with Manual shifting and don,t need a lot of Frills you can get a Base Model 2014 RT SM5 for about $22-23,000.:yikes:

If money is the issue then I would look for a used 2012 but I would not recommend a 2013. Now the 2014s are really sweet.

Which is still a lot less than a Harley Trike.

I sold my 2007 Road Glide last summer and bought a 2013 RT-S SE5. I LOVE IT! The additional features are impressive and the safety and stability is outstanding. I've had no significant heat problems with mine, but some have.

If you can swing a 2014 RT, you won't be disappointed. If you decide on a 2013, I'd recommend a long test ride in warm weather to see if you have any heat problems.
