New Spyder Ryder. Mileage tips

I have owned my 2014 Spyder RTL for about a month. Got around 750 miles of smiles so far. I have been riding in ECO mode the entire time. Big question, I try to maintain 3000-3500 rpm when cruising in 6th gear at around 66 mph on the freeway. What kind of mileage should I expect? I am riding one up, using premium fuel and I don't thrash it off the line. Anyone have any advice/tips on mileage?

thanks

More mileage....

what are you getting now..?? At 750 your nowhere near broken in and the mileage will vary a lot till you are. There are many factors involved but at this point you should be in the mid to high 30's...later on you will get closer to 40...for now just ryde and enjoy...

My first tank was 38 mpg. Have had as high as 42 mpg but most tanks give me 40-41 mpg.

Eco mode will give you about 1 mpg if you follow its commands faithfully. I don't like the thing telling me when to shift so I don't use Eco mode. After you are in 6th, the rpms will be what they want to be when your out on the highway and driving at speed.

Without Eco mode, I find the best shifting range is 2750 - 3000.

Right on, 2014 RTL 750 miles total miles. 210 mi round trip highway and country roads to Netzleys for bar and lazer, 34 mpg.

39.6 overall mpg average during the first Season of ownership... so far! :D
I'm a real "Low & Slow" kind of rider... my style ain't for most folks!
But still; here's my tips for avoiding the pain at the pumps.
1. Upshift as soon as the computers will allow you to... That normally means 2,000 to 2,500 rpm or so; depending on the gear that you're in.
2. Windshield in the lowest postion. (Actually, just about a half-inch off of the bottom stops... an attempt to prevent cracking the center strut)
3. Easy on the throttle?? No; VERY easy on the throttle! pretend that you just got your learner's permit, and Dad is your Co-Pilot.
4. Stay within the speed limits; particularly out on the interstates... These things are like pushing a barn door through the air: speed takes power.
5. Helping with the aero-package: Get BRP's adjustable air deflectors, and keep them in the center position.

Forget about "ECO" mode; you'll be riding so easy, that it could take notes from YOU! ;)

Hit 620 on mine, which means not a lot of tanks to compare. I'm running it to right around 200 on the odo, it reads near 1/4 tank and took 4.8 on one fill, 5.2 on another.

This is 93 octane eth. I'd like to put the no-eth in but my local station has been out. They don't get the fuel as often once boating season slows down.

Whatever you're doing; keep doing it! :2thumbs:
You're also managing to get right around 40 mpg.
"Texas" is one of the riders who has made a study of maximizing his mileage; check out his postings on the subject...

I've had my new 2014 almost a month as well. I've got the same amount of miles as you. I just did a mostly highway ride and stayed close to all posted speed limits. Riding without ECO mode turned on, speeds 70 and below. Also stayed below 3,600 rpm. Distance traveled 162.6 miles, filled up with 4.278 gals. of premium fuel. Averaged 38 mpg for the trip. I'm a very happy camper. Hope this helps you out and gives you an idea of the gas mileage you'll be getting.

Compared to the 28-30 with my 2012, I'm really stoked. I think this current tank will be slightly less mpgs, temps dropped about 15f so combination of denser fuel charge, windshield up, grip, seat, and jacket heaters running. At 181 miles and needle is where I'm usually at for 200 miles, going to fill up at lunch.

OTOH, with the 2012 at 181 miles i'd have been walking about 30 of those.... ;)
