• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. New Spyder RT ECM & TCM Software Update!

On June 19th, BRP has issued a new bulletin that updates the Throttle Bodies, ECM & TCM on 2011 and 2012 Spyder Roadster RT's. The throttle body update has been out for a bit (Bulletin #2012-4) and has now been grouped into this new bulletin (#2012-10). Come see me by making an appointment at Pro Caliber Motorsports. I'll have you in and out within an hour!

Here are some details about the ECM & TCM updates (From BRP's awesome knowledge center):

Roadster RT ECM Update:

Improvements of limp home mode for VCM triggered codes:

Two types of engine limitations are now available:

1. Speed limitation.
- If unit speed is above 50mph, speed will be limited to 68mph, with no rpm limitation.
- If the unit speed drops below 50mph, the rpm limitation will take over as described below.

2. RPM limitation.
- If limp home appears below 50mph rpm will be limited to 4400rpm for each gear 1-4, 4200 rpm for 5th gear. This give the unit a max speed of 56mph.

Other ECM improvements:

- Improvements to limp home reactions and warning displays in cluster.
- Reverse actuator is now controlled by the ECM rather than the cluster.
- Gear learning has been improved to be more precise.
- P0504 and C0040 codes now have a better detection of faulty component. The calculation of deceleration has been integrated.
- A filter has been implemented to remove the cruise control deactivation by a VCM brake signal random spike.

Roadster RT TCM Calibration Update (SE5 Models):

The riding condition that has been identified as responsible for premature clutch failures is prolonged driving between 2500-3300 rpm. Between these rpms the centrifugal clutch is not fully engaged (clamped) causing clutch slippage to occur when load is increased. Slippage produces heat therefore causing warpage of the steel plates and damaging the friction plates.

The new calibration offered can be easily compared to a kick-down of an automatic transmission car under load (or acceleration).

The new calibration recognizes an increase in load in the identified rpm range and will initiate a downshift therefore increasing the rpms out of the risk zone and giving the centrifugal clutch its full engagement force to prevent slippage.

This calibration change will be noticed mainly by customers riding in the risk zone, customers riding at higher rpms will not notice a significant change.

This calibration downshift will occur from 5th to 4th, 4th to 3rd, and 3rd to 2nd. A downshift from 2nd to 1st gear is less probable unless precise conditions are met since the "kick" is a bit too aggressive.

This calibration will not affect the habitual auto-downshift of SE5 at 2200-2500 when throttle is released in normal mode and at 3300-3500 in trailer mode.

If the load request that intiated a downshift is maintained and an upshift is requested by the driver the unit will not upshift until the load request is released or rpms are higher than the predetermined curve.

This file can be added and removed using BUDS at the dealer. However, BRP strongly recommends every 2011/2012 SE5 unit to have this improvement activated.

Trailer mode will still be available and recommended for units hauling trailers.

had mine done

Yesterday i had an appointment at the dealer the day before i called and he said tb update was supposed to be done. Anway somthing with radio antenna was done also but he was suprised yesterday when he saw new update yesterday.im glad to know what changes were made to the update at least now i dont have to worry about getting run over if ever she goes in limp mode.

YAY!!! This is Great News

:clap:Thanks for sharing

:bowdown:And thanks to BRP for listening and putting remidies in place:firstplace:

Let us know if there are any after effects. This sounds like a major upgrade so :cus: can happen as we Beta test the upgrade for BRP. :roflblack: :gaah:

This makes me wonder if this update was done to my RT before I picked it up Wednesday... Today while riding, I was going through a turn, and just as I gave it more throttle to accelerate out, I noticed it dropped down a gear. Kind of reminded me of "passing gear" in an automatic...

Yes it sounds like you have had it done. I talked to my service guy today and that was one of the things he said would happen. I am going to have mine done on Saturday.

Sounds Good for the affected owners and people buying leftovers or used should make sure the updates are done!
Don,t take for granted it has been done.

Jess wundrin, are these bulletins available on the BRP website and are they being handled for a cost or what?

Will the calibration downshift allow for manual downshifting on SE?

Couple days ago in hilly country I'd be in 5th and on curves or hills it would slow to about 43mph or so with RPM's dropping down toward 3K range and it wouldn't allow me to downshift. Motor felt like it was lugging and needed to downshift. This ocurred at times while in 4th, needing to downshift but wouldn't.

Will this recalibration allow for manual downshifting at higher RPM's?

Since reading recently of the potential transmission prob from running RPM's too low, I've made a concerted effort not to do that, upshifting at 4K or higher, and one surprising result "seems" (nothing scientific about this you understand) to be better MPG! Before, about 30 was avg, but the last 5 tanks have yielded an avg of 32.

Took my 14 RTL to the dealer was having a cruise issue. Bro told the dealer to reset and update the ecm. While they were doing the ecm it popped up that there was a TCM update also. After updates noticed a diff in shifting and a diff in the handling. So anyone that has a 2014 go have it plugged in
