There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. New spyder owner -- need peg extension / footrest hep!!

Questions

I am so happy to say I am a new owner of a 2011 rss

I picked up the bike today.

I rode alot today and I started to notice immediately that my left knee would hurt while shifting gears or while I just had my foot on the peg. When I would come to a red light I would extend my left leg out and rest my foot on the ground and the pain would go away so I know it's a peg location problem

I have them sm5 so I have to have my leg on the pegs to shift gears some

What are my options to get comfort? My knee hurts pretty bad

I am tall at 6'3

What are the best foot peg rests/extension? What about floor boards?

Whatever I do I will powder coat the extension black to go with the look of the bike

Oh boy...and your mods will begin now...:gaah:

there are solutions for you...regardless, your knee shouldn't be hurting...it's likely more than just the bike that is causing your knee issue...any meniscus, plica, etc...issues?

No not at all....I am young only 27.... I shouldn't have said hurting it's better put a discomfort

What is my best option for my height?

You may want to check out the toe/heel shifter (forward controls) that one of the site sponsors sell. Sure made things a lot easier for me with the tight shifting.

I have kewlmetal foot pegs, but I wouldn't recommend them...they are flawed in that you have one bolt holding it together and the peg arm can rotate on the single bolt no matter how tight you make it...sloppy design. Harleys have a bolt with I guess you'd call it a 'nipple' that goes into a hole on the frame, so you effectively get a double bolt, which doesn't allow the arm to rotate...

Anyway, I don't have the floorboards, but those might be the way to go if they reposition the clutch...since you have the manual, you'll likely need to do that.

Check out the sponsors here (seal floorboards)...might be a good option...at least shoot a PM or email and see what they have to say...

What about the custom dynamics footrest? Are they good? They seem like they are far enough away to all me to stretch my legs.... Keep in mind I'm 6'3

If your inseam is over aroun 32 inches, the CD mounts put the highway pegs farther out, the KM mounts work better for us short legged people. There are a few choices for footboards, check them out before you get the highway mounts.

I'm 6'4" and have the Kewlmetal highway setup. I got it positioned where I wanted it, and welded stops on the plates so they can't rotate on their attaching bolts. You can see them on my bike at Spyderfest.

:welcome: and :congrats: on your new Spyder.

There are several options for highway pegs, or floorboards, offered by the sponsors of this forum. That is a great thing, but it can also make it a little more difficult to find what works well for you. If you are able to make it to Spyderfest at the end of April, I would wait to buy anything as then you will be able to see what others have done in person. Many will be more than willing to let you sit on their Spyder to see if their solution fits you better as well.

With all that being said, here is a list of options you can start researching.

Kewl Metal, some have already mentioned these and how they need a fix to stop rotation. My wife has these and really likes them.

Custom Dynamics, these mount to the thin sheet metal under the oil tank and radiator and are foot rests only. These are not meant to be used for mounting the Spyder, and they make that clear in the directions.

SFB Racing Floorboards, these are a foot peg/floorboard combination that matches the design of the Spyder. Several members like DocDoru and IWN2RYD have these installed and love them.

Seal Floor Boards, John makes a unique floorboard system that has gotten good reviews from the people who have installed them. I think he still has a free shipping special good until March 31.

ISCI, makes a very nice set of floorboards that are super sturdy and look great as well.

Best of luck in your quest for comfort.

My point...you had to weld them...shouldn't have to do this and those of us who don't weld are really SOL...

It's a crappy design, period! I wouldn't recommend these. The whole idea is to be able to move them...with two bolts, you could...with the way they're made, you have to weld them or they won't stop moving...

I can't believe they didn't think of this before making them...didn't they ever look at products for HDs? My HD buddies laughed at these (thought they were total junk) before they helped me at least try to find a solution...Red loctite for now as well as some seriously stronger lock washers...if no go, welding will do it.

You're a step ahead....good move on your behalf...I'm jealous!!!! :D

Sorry to hear about the knees. Before my replacement surgery, mine hurt when I rode the Spyder, too. It seems to be a combination of the width of the Spyder, and my particular need to rotate my feet inward to work the controls. I used to just stretch mine out to the wind deflectors below the side vents for a few minutes, to get a break. There are quite a few aftermarket options available.

If you go with highway pegs or footboards, you may also want to consider the ISCI hand brake for safety, and the SpyderPops air management goodies to cut down the heat on your right foot. Both sponsors are listed on the SpyderLovers home page.

:welcome:

In addition to floorboards, already mentioned, Rivco has a set available with the heel/toe shifter. I sat on a bike that had them installed and was very comfortable. I'm only 6' and 30 inch inseam, so they may not work for you. You might also consider going with a custom seat which would let you sit a little bit further back and therefor reduce the angle on your knees.:welcome:

ISCI

I have the ISCI floorboards and highway pegs i have to admit i use the highway pegs way more than the floorboards themselves and they are adjustable in and out up and down.

Definitely if your planning on going to Spyderfest wait till then. There will be over 300 Spyders, vendors and one of the best dealers in the country(so I hear The MO Boys seem to think so) will be gathering in one spot. There will be plenty of advice (good or bad) but it will be from the heart. The best part you get to see it before you buy it with all the +s & -s that go with it. Make a list and ask questions. :2thumbs:

i had the same thing happen my legs are long and in that bent seating that you are on a spyder it hurt my left nee and now i tried a small pillow to sit on rased me up enough to lessen the bent knee and helped a lot .,try that ,hopr it helps.:D:spyder::chat::congrats: on the new :spyder2: have fun.

Isci floor boards here. I also have the highway pegs which I use more then the boards. The boards are lower than the factory pegs which may be a good setup for a taller person. I think they look great and are made just as well :2thumbs:

Hi Luckyc1423,

My Seal FloorBoards have come up several times in this discussion. I invite you to check out my website. I designed them to give my poor old legs a chance to move around while riding and keep the circulation going. In the Photo Gallery you will see 8 Legged Freak...all 6'6" of him. He was my first customer and loves the room they give him. Yes, I have my Winter, Free Shipping offer until April 1st. (next Friday). I will also me a vendor at SpyderFest. I hope I can be of service to you.

Ride in comfort,

John
