New Spyder Owner looking for good helmet Headsets

Hi all, I finally bought a RT Limited about 2 weeks ago after not riding for about 20 years. My wife who never rode with me before loves riding with me on our new purchase. I need advise on what headsets to purchase to go on our full faced helmets so we can talk to each other while riding. Other then the headsets is there anything else needed for this to work? I never used headsets before but don't want to spend too much. I was looking at the Sena brands but not sure if those are good so any advice would be helpful.

Most on this site prefer SENA communicators. A vendor on this site (Motorcycle Dave) sells them.

I have used Cardo, Nolan, Chatterbox, and Sena. My favorite is Sena. Quieter, long life battery charge, long distance range. Going on our third season with the Sena SMH10's.

+1 for Sena. The 10u is nicely integrated into some of the higher end helmets otherwise you'll need to go with a helmet wart like a 20s.

One more vote for Dave! He really comes through if you need help. It's also worth knowing that you have the option of adding an SM10 and dongle (Dave has both) which would allow you to send any audio from your RT's stereo to both helmets as well.

:welcome:and :congratsn your new RT Limited. We have over 26,000 miles on ours and loved every mile of it!


We have utilized SENA headsets (SMH10s) and the Bluetooth dongle (SENA SM10 transmitter) for over 3 years with no major issues. You will need to buy the kit for the Bluetooth dongle from BRP (or whoever can provide the connection cable with the dongle) which includes the wiring from your radio to the transmitter (or have your BRP dealer install).

Also, here's a few hints if you go the SENA route:

1. Your transmitter will not turn off by itself. I have left it on several times and depleted the battery (on the transmitter) only to find out it needs charging before I could use it again! :banghead: Be sure to get in a habit of turning it off after use. You can leave it on an hour or so at lunch but not overnight. At the end of the day/ride, you need to turn it off.

2. I have found the attached pairing instruction to serve me well. I had called the SENA Tech Service to receive these instructions (the manual has a lot to be desired in terms of understanding how to pair your devices easily).

3. I placed my transmitter in the trunk lid (pic attached) vs. the Frunk (front of bike). If you do it yourself, this is a much easier route and works great!

Look at UClear they work great and you don't have a mic in your face.

Just put the Sena SMH5 kit in mine and my girlfriend's helmet. We went with the cheaper (1/2 price!!) SMH5 as opposed to the SMH10 because we only wanted to talk to each other and didn't need all the bells and whistles. So far, just wearing our helmets around the house, they are very nice! Very clear and with the firmware upgrade, very shareable for music, in addition to talk.

One more for Sena SMH10.
My Copilot and I had originally purchased a set UClear 100+ but would receive too much wind noise at +40mph to understand each other (tried multitude of fixes). There're now just shelf-ware. That's just our experience with 'em.
We bought the set of SMH10's and could never say enough good things. I highly recommend them!

Dave's cable is made to put the Sena SM10 in the rear trunk which works much better than BRP's over priced cable which puts it in the front trunk.
