New Shark Evoline 2 helmet.

Haven't ridden much in it yet but its the lightest helmet I have ever owned. Much lighter than my excellent Shoei Multitec.

The visor mechanism works amazingly well and though I won't be using open face in this weather its a very cool look. Just get me a Raptor and a flightsuit and I'd fit right in. A bit of a learning curve of course. The manual is in French and English and like most requires diligence to understand the features.

Built in sun visor. Excellent. Something I have always wanted.

Took me a night sleeping on it figure out the Easy Fit Eyeglass feature but looking at an online review I finally figured out where removal padding at the temples was. Made slipping on any pair of glasses with the helmet on easy and secure.

Personally like the fit better but that may be my head. It fits well but there are no pressure points like the Shoei. My face does not have the squished look in the mirror. With my LD Comfort head covering it feels so cozy I can just sit around in it. Yes, in my living room. Geek alert. lol

I use an ICOM system for bluetooth and COM which allows in ear speaker buds but the speaker area in the helmet is extremely easy to access and looks excellent. Some other user will have to try that feature out. I am tempted though I have never been pleased with in helmet speaker sound and the buds serve as sound protection as well. Just my preference. I guess the liners are also washable which is something I have never understood missing from the Shoei.

All in all, I am extremely pleased. I waited for the new version to come out and I am not disappointed. When I called Kyle at Helmet City over the summer he actually advised me to wait since they knew it was out in November.

Sounds Great

Your new helmet sounds great & awesome review, thanks.

Do you have a link or know the website?

Any pics even. Would be great to see ya sit'n in the barco-lounger with it on & give you a reason to use the lift shield each time you take a swig of beer while watch'n the game :roflblack:

Took a little ride today Very windy day. Helmet is extremely quiet. Very comfortable. Haven't tried open face but its just much roomier in front of your face. Either the antifog coating works or the extra room and breather works but there was no fog on the visor or my glasses. That is a first. I did not crack the visor or open the vents either. We'll see in cold cold how well it fairs but a helmet that does not fog in cold an obviously will be much cooler in summer seems like the ultimate win win. Plus the quiet.

Hard to believe its cheaper than my Shoei and lighter. 5 year warranty too.

If you have a football shaped head like me these will not work for you. I loved the helmet but it's made for a more round head.

Sounds dumb but I never really thought about my head shape. Probably why it's more comfortable than the excellent Shoei.

There are 3 basic helmet shapes. Most (if not all but Arai) utilize just one.

1- Round Oval - Basketball head shape
2- Long Oval - Football head shape
3- Intermediate - In-between head shape.

HJC is an Intermediate
Shoei is a Round Oval

Arai makes all 3 shapes. Trouble is, people purchase even the Arai helmet for the pant job or features without regard to the most important factor of all, head shape.

So, a guy needing a round oval (Quantum) will buy a Profile (Long Oval) because they like the look. And then they complain the helmet sucks because it doen't fit right! :dontknow:

Oh Ron, how would you know... ...:roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack:

OK, now that the dumb stuff is over - How does one know what shape head you actually have?

The way most people find out is they try on the correct size helmet in each head shape.

But that is a very good question. I am sorry I don't have a better answer for you.

It is, of course, a width to lenght ratio. And even between helmet manufacturer's there isn't any set standard.

What most people do is get a helmet large enough so they don't have any pressure points.

You can see that someone with a long oval (Football) head getting a round oval (basketball) helmet means they have to purchase a helmet large enough to get around the front and back of their head.

This leaves way too much room on each side. Making the helmet louder, and subject to movement, side to side. Not to mention big problems if the rider ever has to actually depend on it for protection in a fall. :yikes: GOOD LUCK!

Same goes for a round oval head buying a long oval helmet, except that this person will have too much room front to back which is even worse than sided to side.

The evoline has been my go to helmet for the past two years. I have the starcom speakers and mike mounted in it. I slit the little flat pad where the ear opening is and slid the speakers inside the pocket to keep them lower and not touch my ear. This works perfect for me.

I have lost one of the torx screws on the side so check yours when you think of it. You do have to use the center of the shield to open it or run the risk of popping the quick release shield out of its track. A real pain if you pop the shield out going down the highway.

The long oval of the arai fits me better than the evoline as I developed a hot spot on my forehead like Lamont said. It just took a little nudge or two with my fingers to push in the styrofoam in the forhead area to make it fit with out the hot spot.

Sounds dumb but I never really thought about my head shape. Probably why it's more comfortable than the excellent Shoei.

Like I said I loved the helmet but it put a pressure point on my forehead that gave me a bad headache. I would be wearing it today if it wasn't for that. nojoke

Thanks Ron. I think that is where Arai really gets it in that they do make helmets in all the different head shapes. They are just so expensive... it's frustrating.

But now I am curious, so I am going to experiment a bit and try to find out what shape my noggin actually is! :D I'll let you know if I find out anything useful...

The Evoline has a 5 year warranty so don't be afraid to call them.

I have seen the rating on webbikeworld reviews and rates the head shape. I guess I knew this in the back of my mind.

I was taught to put the helmet on. If its mostly comfortable and your friend can't move it when he grabs it it fits.

This is good information to know and I'm glad I started the thread. And its really too bad the Shark doesn't fit you Lamont. I am sort of amazed by it.

My brother raced for some 12 years and has tried a huge variety of helmets. His claim to fame wasn't his victories on the track, but the 185 spectacular wrecks over his "career". I won't ever forget this advice from him, "The only brand I wear now is Arai. Everything else gave me a concussion. Arai's never do."

If Arai made a modular I'd get it. I believe they won't make one until they have made it protect as well as their other full face helmets.

Other than DOT/Snell/ECE (which I don't have a lot of faith in), how can you tell how well it will protect? I wish there were some standard tests out there with published results other than pass/fail.

Until then, I just go for fit and features and don't expect it to do anything more than keep the bugs out of my teeth.

That all said, I wear a Shoei Multitec for all the wrong reasons (fits great, very quiet, light, comfortable)

It's hard to imagine a modular more comfortable, more quiet and lighter than the Multitec. As soon as I can find one of these Evoline 2's locally I have to try it.

Lamont, I have the same shape head but have the same Shark EvoLine2 helmet. If you look inside the helmet, under the removable linner and on top of the styrofoam shell, there is a 3/8" thick rubber bad about 2" X 5" in the front where your forehead would contact the helmet. I removed it and all is nice and snug with no hard pressure point at the forehead. I also own a Nolan (expensive model) and a HJC. Neither one is nearly as comfortable and even with the rubber pad removed on the Shark, it still offers as much if not more protection. The Shark removable inner linner is about the best I've ever seen. I'm sure Shark never ment for that to be removed but it looked to me like the perfect, removable, optional peice in order to allow the helmet to fit every head.

As the old advertising used to put it..."How much is your head worth?" :D

I don't remember who posted it but I remember a link to European vs American helmet standards. A bit disturbing. Seems the American standard is about a hard shell and the Europeans are about energy absorption off the skull.

Let's pray none of us have to put it to the test.

Also waiting for a rechargeable battery heated vest. Made in Australia.

I'll report on it when I get it.

Yes. My own XMAS presents. To myself. Lol
