New Seal Floorboard rear support brackets review

You may have seen my earlier post about the seal floorboards, my wife and I love floorboards but had issues with the rear mounting brackets.

My wife is small, a little taller than my friend Dobby but not by much, so we have to have the rear passenger boards on the highest setting. The Seal floorboards act as a step and she loves them, the issue is that you need to have the rear passenger boards all the way down to clamp the rear bracket.

With the rear passenger boards all the way up, the rear bracket would move up and down in the groove (rotate is properly a more accurate statement), there was no lateral side movement, just a sort of pivot up and down by the driver pegs.

John as been working on a new rear bracket to solve this issue and my wife and I have been testing for him. He as given us the all clear to post our review of them on the board.

John will officially announce them when he goes into production with the new rear mounts in a week or two.

The mounts look the same but instead of the round peg it is now square, this allows the the bracket to be used in the same slot but there is no movement as the square peg can not rotate in the slot.

We noticed an issue with the old mounts within 50 or so miles, we now have a few hundred miles with the new brackets and they are rock solid.

You will only need these new brackets if you raise the rear passenger floorboards, if your rear passenger floorboards are low enough to clamp the original bracket then you will see no deference.

I would like to say a big thank you to John, he turned these new brackets around really quickly and have solved the problem.

Great info. I had written to John about just this issue and he replied that a solution was near. I will probably be ordering a set of Seal Boards as soon as these are in production! Thanks for the review.

I guess it's the exception that rules. Most people dont need to raise the passenger pegs, but those who did, Noticed a design flaw that I had never considered. The solution, as is usually the case, was the simplest one. Simple applied physics says that if you turn a square rod in a slot, thi diameter of the rod will, in effect, increase and grip the sides of the slot tighter, the mor it is turned. Such is the case with the new rear bracket. Self locking. All new orders will have the new ones starting in about a week. As was said before, this will only effect a few people, but makes Seal FloorBoards just that much better. So, as I like to say.........

Thanks

Hi Larry,

Yes, they can be easily swapped out. I have six sets in the powder coater now, but because of the 4th, probably won't get them till early next week. I'm making the change over now but it will be close to two weeks before I have more than a handful. I liked the way they worked on my RT but wanted to get Harry's input before jumping. As I said, this is going to make no difference to 95% of those who already the Seal FloorBoards. Only those with shorter passengers who need the passenger pegs high, might really need this new bracket. PM me if you need a set.

John
