• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hello all. I have a newbie question. We are picking up out new RTS tomorrow and have about a 1hour or more ride home.
What questions would you suggeat we get answered before leaving the dealership for the maiden voyage home? Thank you

WELCOME to SPYDERLAND

:welcome:There are more questions, but 99% of them you can find here. take it easy and ENJOY. 1 thing you can ask. is about, what SPYDER advents are comming up very soon, and not to far for you to attend. LAMONTS BBQ and the BRP PARTY.. HAVE FUN, BE SAFE:yes:

Hi Teron!
Which dealership did you buy from? As far as picking up an RTS; you might want to ask about suggested settings for the rear suspension and maybe get a quick rundown on the stereo...
If you've got an hour's ryde home, I'd suggest that you relax and kind of let the Spyder track nice and straight down the highway on its own. Don't try to "steer" it too much; the extra effort can be exhausting!
In the meantime...WELCOME TO THE PARTEEEE!!! :2thumbs:

:welcome::congrats: relax, ride safe, and steer gently, then read the ops manual thoroughly when you get home, from then on you can most likely get your questions answered here more objectively and completely than at the dealership.. sometimes you will get guidance here to take to the dealership to make sure they start on the right track if you have any problems

:welcome:
I would get a number to call them in case you do have a problem. One thing we see quite often on new Spyders don't fully charge the battery and that can throw a lot of codes on you going down the road. That would be my number one question.

:congrats: and enjoy the ride. :ohyea:

I'm trying to think back to the day I left with my spyder. I was in so much of a hurry to "get on the road" that in hind sight I should have asked.

I would preface my suggestions though by saying that I never dealt with anyone in the service department. At my final closing it was with the salesman and sales manager. Consequently, I'm not sure that they could have really answered these questions. Bottom line is have someone from service to answer your questions.

(1) Show me how to operate the "Menu and Settings" controls. There's been many a discussion on the correct way to preset stations on the radio, language, etc.

(2) Explain the extended warranty programs and the extended warranty service program. (most sales people will do this, but make sure it's done).

(3) The suspension, battery and telephone issues mentioned earlier are great suggestions.

(4) Ask if there is a charge for dealer to come and get you in the event you break down.

(5) Take the time to go back to the service department and introduce yourself to that staff. I try to get on a first name basis. I've found that humility goes a long way in this area.

I know there are probably many more, but these seem to come to mind first.

Great Response

Thanks for the info. I have been reading a lot of the posts and you guys are a wealth of information.
I bought the Spyder from Ridersville Cycle in Berkley Springs W.Va even though I'm from Pa. they are the closest. Hope they open a dealership around Hagerstown,Md or Chambersburg,Pa. so I would not have such a trip for maintenance. Guess I may be doing some easy stuff myself, if there is any such thing on this machine.
Once we get a handle on this machine my wife and I plan to do some trips, so we may just see a few of you around Mid Atlantic state events. We hope to be making a trip to Myrtle beach area in July, and visit our son who is a Marine in NC on the way through.
Thanks again

Have the dealer work every function on the bike while showing you !!! Picked mine up and just wanted to get reading . While I found out 500 miles after the 600 mile service my air shock never worked and my left saddle bag never stayed closed as well as I was missing 2 grommets .

Check out the folks at Motosports in Hanover, PA. This is where I got my RT-S SE5 from and they took over an hour to go over everything on the machine to include showing how to remove the mirrors, panels etc. They have their Service Manager do all the Spyder deliveries so you get a first hand introduction to thier service department. They are 90 Miles from me and I have a dealer in my back yard. Well worth the distance for a great dealer.
