• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. New RT Lighting Projects Completed

Se the photos of the installed HID, LED reflector lights and glove box, side bag and rear trunk interior LED lighting. Last two projects to complete are the final installation of the Clearwater LED driving lights (wiring and switch in place and the brackets are being mailed as we speak) and a couple of additions to the trailer which I'll cover soon.

Don't ask where to buy them :D - these projects were all custom and no one makes the kits but it's all set up through the extra fuse panel and one switch to turn on all of the interior lights. Another for the driving lights and the reflector lights run with a special relay setup that turns them into running and turn signals.

I'll try to complete the drawings, some instructions and a parts list when I get finished with my other projects.

That is some very good work, and I can see a lot of other people following your lead on many of those lighting mods.

I'm looking forward to seeing how you did the side marker lights on the front fenders. Have always thought that would be something that would significantly increase the visibility from the side.

Great job!

We would be very interested to see your information when you get it finished. Just got our Spyder a week ago and can already see the lack of lighting from the side. These changes will definitely improve the safety of all Spyder riders in traffic due to the void of lighting on the side. Did you change the reflector lenses or use the existing lenses? Has anyone made improvements to the rear taillight lighting? This also seems to be an area a little lacking on lighting. Thanks for sharing and look forward to your updates soon!:bowdown::helpsmilie:

Plans for reflector lighting and HIDs coming

I am not a manufacturer nor do I make any promises that what I did would work for you. If you do anything to your bike that causes damage it is your own responsibility and if you aren't sure of the methods go to a mechanic that understands electrical systems and installations.

Someone sent me a note and asked if I guaranteed my plans and work.

HIDs are from DMN Tuning. They are the 9005 series BUT, BUT, they have the correct connectors but the wiring is reversed from the Can-Am wiring. You will need to test the light lines on the Spyder and I cut the connectors off of the HIDs and reversed the connector. DMN has a fault cancelation unit but it turned out we didn't need them because the Spyder showed no faults from the HIDs and we have about 250 miles on it thus far.

As far as the refkector lights I used the existing reflectors and Custom Dynamics LED strips. I made them running and turn signals with mini relays to do the switching between running and turn signal functions.

Getting the current reflectors off without breaking them or damaging your paint is really easy and you will need some dental floss and patience. Basically you use the dental floss to cut the foam tape on the back of the reflector in half.

I'll take some photos when I do the next set and write some instructions. It wll mean taking some body parts off to get turn signal and running light signals. I ran mine through mini relays so that I wasn't pulling power for the additional lights from the existing lights.

reflector lighting

lawrenc454 hello love your work I would like to find out what Custom Dynamics LED strips and mini relays you used for your setup. I have always thought that they should be lit and was afraid to take them off and try to make them lite up. Great work
thank you for your time

Lighting Kits

I wish I had the time to make up a bunch of kits but I don't. I can do what my friend "Just Bob" does which is to put on a day session at my house where you bring your Spyder and a few tools and we walk everyone through installing some items. It's like a tech day but we basically walk a few people through teardown and installation and charge a fee for drinks and supplies. Another option is that our dealer in Livermore might host the group for the day. Of course this only works for folks in the San Francisco Bay Area or NorCal that don't mind driving. If a few of us get together we could also make a video that we could post. If there is interest, I'll talk to Bob and we'll set up a "Spyder Farkle" Day. Since he's not a Spyder rider we might need to chip in to pay him to support the effort - he's good.

It's odd, I'm coming to Mesa next weekend for our son's wedding and I wish I had the time to come over and help you with your Spyder.

No way I can make a trip like that, so I'll have to wait and hope that video idea works out. Too bad, because I love San Francisco.

Hey lawrenc454,

It looks good.

But I am not sure what some of the pictures are, or what area of the bike Iam looking at. Some more pics of a little further away.

Any way you can take some pictures of the locations.

I was thinking how nice it would be for a third brake light LEDs, on the upper trunk area for better visability.

Great work,

I would be interested in a day of mods, depending on when it is?

I'll put together a package of instructions

I will include wiring diagrams, parts lists and general instructions -- unless some of our sponsors are going to sell the same projects. If they let me know I'll try not to do stuff that will interfere with their trade. Lonnie

I'd love to see this in person some time. Maybe we'll hook up at Speed Sports one of these days.

Good work. :2thumbs:
