There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. New Rear Automatic Trunk Light

Neat little add on that I had been researching for a while. The rear trunk is deep and dark. I wanted a decent, oem looking LED trunk light that would come on automatically when I opened the trunk. Finally got around to doing something about it and thought I would share.

Gets its power from the back of the 12v convenience outlet that can be accessed behind the rear left speaker module. Wiring routes neatly through the hinge along with the high mount stop light harness. Took all of about 30 minutes to install including removal of the passenger seat, rear fender trim and rear left speaker housing to get at everything and route the wiring.

I think it turned out pretty OEM looking for less than $25 all in.

Installed one on Louise bike as well today.

Very nice.

Like you, I too spent a while looking at a means to automate the on / off.

In the end, I used an LED light designed to be stuck on and has a touch switch. Runs on Batteries. Sure is nice to have the light in the dark hole of the rear trunk.

Your setup may be what I go to after I tire of the battery / stick on setup we now have.

I like to see how different people come up with different solutions. I used LED strips, and a regular switch. I hooked it in to the power going to the plug in the back, and since I leave the trunk open while in the garage (for battery tender to plug in), I wanted to be able to manually turn it off. I was thinking of using a small magnetic switch in series, so when we're riding it would come on when the lid was opened, but I could still manually keep it off for the tender.

Cargo nets

Where did you get the cargo net for the lid?

Not to steal the thread....Just go to eBay and type in "Spyder cargo nets" and you'll find them. They cost around $15 to $20.

i've had mine over two years....They come as a set of three...One for each side bag & one for the trunk.

VERY nice.
Can you offer a few details on how you mounted the mercury switch ?

The switch I gave the pointer to has a peel n stick 3M mounting tape adhesive already on the switch. Its stuck to the inner part of the trunk lid. Between the inner and outer parts. Had to remove the outer painted section of the trunk lid to run the wires from the light to the hinge anyway and there is ample room inside that space for the switch.

Value Accessories, a site sponsor.:firstplace: Go to Can-Am Spyder-Spyder Luggage & Racks / DR Backrest / Arm Rests. On the right column, 3rd down. 3 PC Lid Net Set, Can-Am Spyder RT. A bargain at $13.75. I also got the rear trunk liner set from them. Great for holding all your malarky in the back trunk.

I believe that the 2013 and 2014 model year bikes offer the option of having the rear accessory plug be either "hot' all of the time, or being a keyed poerer source. You just need to move one fuse...

This is an excellent project! Thanks! :2thumbs:

Nicely done. One question. My outlet is a switched outlet there. Does the key have to be on for the light to work?

The outlet can be changed from switched to always on by moving one fuse. Its in the owners manual. As that outlet powers my SM10 bluetooth module, I keep it on all the time.

I THOUGHT ABOUT IT ....BUT DECIDED TO TRY IT THIS WAY

:congrats:......JC very nice DIY which is how I roll :roflblack:....and I was also going to go your route ..........But then I thought, Frunk + Trunk + two side bags all that wiring and then switches etc.................So on one of my many journey's I got gas a Truck stop and bought a small battery powered LED , it is 3 1/2 " X 2 1/4 " X 1 " it has a folding hook to hang it , and a good magnet to stick onto metal.......3 led's for a flashlite & 24 LED's to use as an overhead type lite ...it uses 3 AAA batts.........I have been using this lite for quite awhile and the batts have not been changed yet........So I have decided to glue four small pieces of sheet metal ( maybe more ) into the Frunk ,Trunk & Side bags ...I can move the lite as needed or get more It was only $5 ( and it's cheaper on-line ).......and if I need the lite outside the bags etc. it's portable ....and there is no TIME consuming wiring ...............I get my batts at the Dollar store ....8 to a package for .......yes $ 1 ............................Mike
