• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

New Owner Story

Hey all. Got my second 2014 RT S SE6 3 weeks ago and thought I would share my little "so far" story. Had my 1st 2014 RTS for 6 weeks and about 3k miles, when I wrecked it. Got caught in a hail storm and the next gust of wind pushed me off into the ditch. I thought I was going to be okay, then I spotted the concrete culvert directly ahead. Decided to center it up. Kind of gutted my bike, a total. Passenger( my first) and I were both okay. We stayed on and held on. No injuries. That RT was black.

About 2 weeks ago got a replacement RTS (white this time). Got on and went to PA from my home in Ks. Was in Ghettysburgh for Memorial day. Traffic was fairly intense, but machine was brilliant. It is absolutely an obsession with me. I need to work harder to make more ride time. I don't normally participate in forums and such, and I talked to some Spyder owners out on the road that visit this site, but do not see the need to register. I tell them "but I want to share ! "

I lost my wife Marie last September and had been home or hospital for at least a year. This bike is my version of grief therapy. No matter how tired or sacked I am, riding just to town, lifts my spirits and invigorates me.

I have heard great thing about Ultimate Seats. I am 6'6" 350 and would ALWays prefer a firmer seat and maybe back an inch or two also. Anything someone can tell me about them will be appreciated. I am sure other mods are coming. Enjoy reading all the posts and replys. Thanks for the opportunity. Ron

Welcome Ron, nice to have you become part of the Spyder Lovers Forum and Family. I can't tell you much about the seat you are wanting to know about, but I am sure someone here will jump in with some information for you.

ron, sorry to hear of your loss!! a similar note on our spyder was about a year and a half ago, my wife was going through a bout with cancer, and the spyder was just what she needed to set her mind free about everything. our time spent on the spyder together was worth it's weight in gold for both her and i!!! :2thumbs:

Welcome..!!

to this curiously interesting and most helpful site. Glad you and your passenger came away without damage. Sorry to hear about your wife but do understand the healing effect these machines have.
As to the seat, I don't have that one I got the comfort seat from a member here and it did give me two inches and helps with the passengers angle..you really have to find someone that has one to test it out.....:ohyea::ohyea:

Hi Ron!
Welcome to the FAMILY!! :2thumbs:
You've certainly had to endure a lot over the recent past...
Here's to hoping that some "Wind Therapy" continues to help get you through all of it!

:welcome:Sorry for your loss. The Spyder definitely is a good form of therapy. Glad no one was hurt and that you are riding again! Here is to many (S)miles!

:welcome: & :congrats: on getting "back on the horse" after that initial experience.

I'm sorry for your loss and hope the Spyder will help.

:welcome: and congrats on your Spyder. I am sorry about your loss and hope you continue to heal with the help of your :spyder2:. I am very happy to read that you and your passanger had no injuries from your incounter with the culvert:clap:

:congrats: on the new ryde. The "wind therapy" does work wonders to solve many things. Hang in there.

Can't give you information about the Ultimate seat--but many have them and like them a lot. Try our search engine and it should bring up a lot of information, until others chime in.

I went thru what you did 7 years ago. Not the accident, but the loss of the spouse. So first of all you have my sympathies. Rose Kennedy once said “It has been said, 'time heals all wounds.' I do not agree. The wounds remain. In time, the mind, protecting its sanity, covers them with scar tissue and the pain lessens. But it is never gone.” I know this is little consolation, but take it from one who's been there, it won't get better, but it'll get easier.

I also followed the same path you are as far as riding as therapy. In fact, I found a book by Neil Pert call Ghost Rider which details how he dealt with the death of both his wife and daughter by riding. In his case a BMW, but it's the same. It's a good read and I highly recommend it.

BTW, I'm riding an Ultimate seat and love it. It's not the extended version, but I can highly recommend the seat itself. There was an extended one for sale on there a little while ago, look and see if it's still available.

If there is anything I can ever do, or if you just want to talk to someone whose been there, PM me and we'll try to make that happen. Take care

You have gone through a lot in a short period of time. Sorry for your loss. Riding the Spyder is therapy at its best. :congrats::welcome: Tom :trike:

welcome to the forum. sorry to hear about your loss.

as far as the ultimate seat, we purchased one earlier this month. I ended up getting the tall boy seat with the back rest and revco passenger arm rest. so far I really like it and it is much better than the stock seat. expensive but it is worth it to me.

they do have a 14 day trial period so you can try it and make sure it is the fit for you.

Condolences lost most of what family I had my mom in 2000, then my remaining brother in 09 after a 20 year stay in a nursing home because of his head injury. Wife would be really hard. But I've got my 12 step family and my riding family and y'all! Your doing the right thing Ryding is the best therapy
