• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

New Oil leak

Well I went out to warm up my spyder this morning for a planned ride and to my surprise when i went back out to the garage i see oil on the floor. I checked the oil and it is below the low end of the dipstick. I am not real happy but was wondering if anyone else has had an issue like this. I looked under real quick and couldnt see anything but it is up front and seems to be centered under the bike. I am going to call the dealer and have them pick it up ASAP, I dont want to take a chance driving it. I am upset but hopefull it is something minor. Sorry just, wanted to vent a little

When the engine is cold, the oil may well be below the end of the dipstick. Your dry sump system has to be really low before you lose oil pressure, although the SE seems to shift funny even if a little low. You may not be low at all, however. You won't know until you bring the Spyder to full operating temperature. When was the last time you checked the oil? How much oil was on the floor? A little oil makes a huge spot. A few drips isn't a sign of disaster.

Possible sources of the oil.....
Drips from spilled oil left from changing the oil.
Drips from oil in the airbox.
Oil/Water from a water pump shaft leak.
Leak at an engine gasket.
Drips from the coolant overflow or emissions vent that look like oil but are not.

If it were me, I'd start it, ride it (if there was no warning light) until it got up to operating temperature for at least ten minutes, then check the oil by the procedure in your manual (full operating temp, run for 30 seconds to evacuate sump, check within about a minute, screw in dipstick all the way). If it is at the proper level, you are good to ride to the dealer or elsewhere. If it is low, add enough to get it to the proper level and ride it. Towing it in for a few drips on the floor is overkill.

Do exactly what Scotty/Nancy'stoy said, and take it down to Seminole Power Sports and let Jason, the tech, take a look at it.

I did have it up to full temp and than checked the oil level as per the manual and it didnt even show on the dipstick. I just dont want to do any damage and I am concerned because I just checked the oil about a week ago and it was good. There was more than a couple of drops it was a small puddle. I appreciate the advise and i may try to get it up to temperature and check again

Put some oil in it if it is low. You don't have a low oil pressure light or warning, and you didn't mention hearing any awful noises. You can't see an obvious leak, like from a loose drain plug, so there seems to be no reason not to ride it after the oil is topped off. You might want to try to locate the point of the leak better, and assure that the drain plugs are tight. If it makes you feel better, tow it, although there doesn't seem to be any compelling reason to do so at this point. At least that way you won't worry any more.

BTW, full operating temperature is not just waiting for the water temp gauge to rise. It takes a 5-15 minute ride to get the oil temperature up and the metal good and hot.

I haved the same and looking and i haved to change the oil radiator, 45 min. and cost me last than $150. very happy w/ my job.

I just picked up my Spyder and it turns out that was aproblem with a weep hole on a cover plate (water pump I believe). Speaking tothe tech it seems to be an issue with the 2012’s, he had a second Spyder in theshop with the same issue. BRP is looking into a possible recall on this andthey replaced the entire cove, no patch kit. I must say Seminole Powersports wasgreat to deal with and were very helpful. And Chris thanks for recommendingJason he did a great job

I believe it is a problem with a lot more than the 2012s. As I recall the water pump warranty campaign was issued in 2010.
